Who, what? Shadow what? In my opinion, the bc plan of MS will make the lifespan even longer, at least for the ecosystem and the games. There is no reason for MS to follow Sony's plan when it comes to PS3, at all.

Shane Kim

This guy was the head of the Xbox division in 07. I remember reading an article with him saying they would follow Sony. Every move Microsoft has ever made has been a response to Sony.  The Xbox 360 RROD, Fixing the clock speed of the Xbox One late  in the game, The investment in the Kinect after seeing sony create the eyetoy, Creating a project scorpio when there was no necessity for Microsoft to do it and copying Sony's ten year plan (well...eleven for Microsoft now...but they made this plan a year after Sony launched and revealed they would support the PS3 for ten years). I could go on and on. Its all they really do if you actually pay attention.

As I said..Microsoft is a shadow of their greatest competitors.

Sorry but no. This is absolutely not right, STAGE There isn't even a point to argue when your reasoning relies on a statement made 9 years ago

Have a nice day :-*

You're telling me no, but truly saying nothing that argues against my specific points. Prove me wrong. The Xbox 360s lifespan has outlasted the original Xboxes by leaps and bounds, but being unnaturally out past ten years is nothing new to Sony. They've been doing that since the start. Again, if you actually have an argument...please come to me with one.

Otherwise, have a nice day.

I already said how I understand their "support" for the console.

I am saying they are not *actively* supporting it. Of course 3rd party devs still release games for it and Sony doesn't shut down services but they are not releasing games for it anymore, they are keeping it "alive". How that is "excellent" when there is still money to get, I also don't know.

Don't get me wrong, it's good that Sony didn't forget about PS3 but the support after 9 or 10 years is hardly the same as in the first years.

Alkaline just:

- pointed out to you that PS3 is still supported with new games

- pointed out to you that PS3 is still supported with sales

- pointed out to you that PS3 is still supported with online network

- pointed out to you that PS3 is still supported with PS+ games (Dirt 3, Costume Quest 2 and Pumped BMX+ this month)

- pointed out to you that PS3 has received numerous big first party games close to and after the launch of PS4 (God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Gran Turismo 6, LittleBigPlanet 3, etc.)

If this isn't supporting your 10 year old console, I don't know what the heck is

Besides, they are still releasing new games:

And what does "they are not *actively* supporting it" even mean? Are you trying to find out which of the 2 manufacturers have been the most active in their support?

And regarding bold.

Go home with your console warrior bullshit listwars crap, seriously. I said that the main support comes from 3rd party, not from Sony themself. I don't say they don't support it but the support is basically just keeping the status quo in terms of online features. They are just not shutting down servers. And even if, of course publishers will still release games for that console.

I say that this is a kind of support that isn't anything to be excited about. "Hey, it still works!" is basically it, in my opinion.

No. You said that "Sony are not actively supporting it" even though they've released numerous big games for it after the launch of PS4 and still release their MLB games for it. If you had said that "the main support comes from 3rd party" I wouldn't raise a single one of my two fat eyebrows.

Because honestly walsufnir, my good man, what 10 year old console has ever gotten the majority of its new games from its manufacturer 3 years after the launch of its successor?

Definitely yes and without a doubt!!!

Hmm? The 360 is also still supported? And is longer in the market.

Shane Kim said back in 07 that the 360 would follow the PS3's lifespan until Sony stopped their cycle. Havent you noticed that they havent stopped support just yet unlike their first gen? Much like they are to Apple...Microsoft is a Sony's shadow in the gaming realm. They will follow the PS4 until its dying day

We won't make this about Xbox because this is basically a Sony celebration thread but:

Sony consoles have generally done incredible numbers. They sell really well. The original Xbox sold what? 30 million? I can't remember. And it sold at a $100 loss from day one. It had limited third party support. They were faced with the option of supporting a"dead console", or moving on.

The Xbox 360 was far successful. People are still subscribing to Xbox Live. It still moves decent software. That is why it's being supported. Not because they're "following Sony". It's because it makes them money.

A quote that I recall said something like "When will you stop supporting Xbox 360" or " When will you release the successor to Xbox 360" and the reply was "One day after Sony"-- but, again that is up to the consumer. When we stop supporting Xbox, Nintendo, or PlayStation and they stop making money, that's when they stop supporting the console. Whenn it's no longer profitable.

PS1: 1995

PS2: 2000

PS3: 2006

PS4: 2013

Last gen was a bit of an anomaly but let's remember that 4-6 years between new hardware is an industry norm and Sony has followed that template. Yes, PS1, PS2, and PS3 have remained in production for a decade (or more), each. But let's not pretend they were giving PS1 AAA support when they were competing against Xbox and GameCube. Releasing God of War 2 on PS2 after Xbox 360 was on the market was always considered a big mistake. Many felt it should have been a PS3 launch game.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Long story short, consumers determine life span. Be it CDs, DVDs, car models, or McDonald's specialty burgers. If we're giving companies money, they keep things on the market.

Honorable mention for Microsoft in competition with Sony:

-Not giving a damn about HD DVD's fate by when trying to use them to get people to veer way from Blu Ray and failing. Instead of putting  HD DVD in the Xbox 360 they sold it seperately and let it die while Sony took the loss for the Blu Ray and saved it.

-Microsoft creates a augmented reality to outshow Sony's VR which was in development and realizes its too expensive and ahead of its time to sell at the moment.

-Eager to take Sony's table scraps when Sony lets go of developers for their top teir studios. Rarely if ever do you hear of Sony doing the same.

-

-Achievements

-One year exclusivity with Netflix

-charging for online play

-external HDD support for 360 and One

-App snapping

-ability to install every 360 game for better performance

-IR blaster to control other home devices

-Cortana support

-AA batteries in their controller

Boy, that Microsoft couldn't wipe their own asses if Sony didn't show them how!

/Sarcasm. I could point out several featuress that Sony has copied from M$ and Nintendo just as easily as I could point out several things that M$ had copied from Nintendo and Sony (and summer things I WISH they WOULD copy!). And I could do the same for Nintendo. And I could point out several things that are totally unique amongst all three companies. A lot of things all companies do are in response to their fans and market demand.

Yes they have, and customers seemed satisfied with it.
