Forums - Sony Discussion - Has Sony kept their promise of PS3 10 years lifespan?

I think the decision to offer free games for PS+ subscribers really increased PS3's lifespan to (and beyond) 10 years. Even now, there are still games to play on it. Like this month - Dirt 3. I missed that one when it came out, now playing the cr*p out of it.

Quite honestly, I didn't believe the 10-year-lifespan mumbo-jumbo at all, but I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong. Sony actually delivered.

Yeah. Persona is still coming out on it and it still gets the yearly sport games.

Oh yeah big time. Still many awesome games coming in its 11th year!

They kept their promise--as they did with all PlayStation home consoles--but it was never up to them. It's always been up to the consumer. We kept it on the market for ten years do they kept us supplied with content for ten years.

What exactly does Sony do in terms of games? Two years ago, last year and this year? What about next year? Other than not shutting down psn and still giving games for ps+?

my ps3 in now a Netflix and youtube machine and will be until Sony kills it's servers completely.

For the most part yeah but some areas they stopped manufacturing them last year. PS3 ended up as my fave system last gen and most played of the 3 tho Wii was a narrow second.

No it had no games for 3 to 4 years so that part of its life span doesn't count.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

List is not comprehensive but you get the point

And here, you can see Sony not supporting the PS3 by including the PS3 in the PSN 10 year anniversary sale.

You could also see how Sony doesn't support PS3 by them not taking the time to charge people for online multiplayer, or how they don't support the PS3 by handing out games to + subscribers. *scratches head*

Im not sure how exactly you would support a 10+ year old piece of hardware that is extremely outdated, but I think they've done an excellent job. So much so that they wasted GT6 and like 3 other exclusives on it during the Ps4s launch period.
