How difficult is it to get a tough looking, hot asian woman...?

Japan doesn't care about whitewashing.. why do you?

All in all they need also a selling point and that is Scarlett Johannson. Would the main character be a unknown one, then they would have a risk to get people to watch a strange looking movie like this. People need to have some kind of connection or a feel of security that could work in this film.

It is the "What the hell is this movie? Oh well, it has that Actor in it, maybe I'm gonna check this out" approach.

I don't think it will do well eiter way. Maybe i just wanted to see an asian actress because the run of the mill hollywoodstars aren't very good.

A lot, if not most anime characters from the things i watched don't even look asian to begin with.

Kenji mother-effin' Kawai, people. I may go see it alone just for that. It really makes it seem like they're trying to respect the source material as much as practically possible. Of course, it could end up terrible, but I'm definitely willing to give it a chance after seeing that trailer and the "shelling" video.

Well, Mamoru Oshii was on the set so...

I think Scarlett works pretty well here, but I don't like how the thermoptic suit (nude suit) looks. Still, overall, I like the look of it and while the tone seems to be leaning heavily towards action, it seems to be doing it in a way that seems fairly respectful to the source material.

Well, it is similar to the one in the first movie. It's a really thin suit covering the body. In this adaption it looks more thicker with more details.

After watching the trailer again, I think I mostly just have an issue with the color palette in the "cloudy day" scenes (like in the teaser). The suit looks fine in the other scenes and everything looks terrible in that one scene. Too flat looking.

I'm still really not sure how I feel about this. Some parts look good, others feel like your typical mediocre/bad Hollywood adaptation. I like the scenery, art design, and practical effects but the vfx and character design can lack (particularly on our stars, Motoko and Batou). I'm not super hung up on the casting like some are, but I'm not convinced at all that these people are cyberized supercops. Based on the trailer the writing also seems hackneyed as all hell. It would still be nice to have a good adaptation to one of the best animes ever, but I'm a bit less hopeful than before.

Also, for the people complaining about the Major not being Asian, look up the term "mukokuseki."

That's rather irrelevent, since the story takes place in Japan. -___-

That being said, I don't care if she looks japanese or not. The movie looks good from what has been shown so far. Though it will be a tall order to match, let alone surpass, the orginal's brilliance.

The scene looked good but Johansson looked really out of place here. Did they just want to get a big name to star the role or something?

I'd be ok with it if Johanssen's lips weren't so large. It bothered me for some reason XD
