As this was one of the major reasons why Nintendo didn't want to show off the Switch earlier, and as we know that both companies have a habit to immitate the big innovations Nintendo introduces to the gaming world, do you think thant they are already working on some similar concepts?
Looking at Microsoft, it isn't all that easy to answer. They never had a handheld concept, so no experience in this regard. They would have some initial trouble with this, but then again, we live in a connected world where it is easy to gather everything needed in no time.
Sony is the dangerous one, from Nintendo's perspective. The Vita is struggling, Nintendo knows that. So if Sony wanted to build a new portable, they could design it with some Switch ideas in mind, now that Nintendo has finally revealed it. But it's not just about hooking up to a screen, since the Vita had that option as well, but to somehow integrate some kind of detachable controllers. I think this is much more important.
I believe both will check how much they can adopt this concept. Just in case it flies off the shelves so they can be ready to offer something similar.
