Forums - Gaming - Will Sony and MS copy the Switch?

As this was one of the major reasons why Nintendo didn't want to show off the Switch earlier, and as we know that both companies have a habit to immitate the big innovations Nintendo introduces to the gaming world, do you think thant they are already working on some similar concepts?

Looking at Microsoft, it isn't all that easy to answer. They never had a handheld concept, so no experience in this regard. They would have some initial trouble with this, but then again, we live in a connected world where it is easy to gather everything needed in no time.

Sony is the dangerous one, from Nintendo's perspective. The Vita is struggling, Nintendo knows that. So if Sony wanted to build a new portable, they could design it with some Switch ideas in mind, now that Nintendo has finally revealed it. But it's not just about hooking up to a screen, since the Vita had that option as well, but to somehow integrate some kind of detachable controllers. I think this is much more important.

I believe both will check how much they can adopt this concept. Just in case it flies off the shelves so they can be ready to offer something similar.

I don't see why. Unlike last generation, all three are going in seperate paths. Universal windows, PS now, and the switch are all dramatically different.

Even if they do copy the switch, it'll flop. Look at Kinect and PS Move last generation. Kinect died this generation, an the PS Move's concept only improved upon Sony adding VR to the console experience.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Nahi I think vr is the way forward

I mean Sony already kinda tried with Vita, Vita TV and Remote Play. Not exactly the same but it's there and now available on PC/MAC. The portability factor is basically you using your laptop to connect with your PS4 through Remote Play and all you need is an internet connection (and your DS4 with dongle or USB cable). AGAIN not the same but the idea is there and obviously Switch will be doing it more better.

MS has that whole thing Windows that's also kinda similar to remote play-ish. I actually don't know about it much so maybe someone could explain it better than me.

I don't think they will try and copy this unless it becomes Wii 2.0
I think Sony is pretty much done with portables after the Vita, which is a shames since the Vita if still a damn good handheld.

Vita/tv is what the switch is.

Yea its clunky anf needs 2 systems but its the same.

I can play vita games on the big screen And on  my handheld .

Also Nintendo copied a Chinese company.

Nintendo already copied from a China company

"Say what you want about Americans but we understand Capitalism. You buy yourself a product and you Get What You Pay For."

Copy what? A tablet with controller nubs? Nintendo is already copying the Morphus. Why would Sony and MS, who make powerful high quality consoles copy a underpowered 720p tablet when they are moving on to 4k and HDR? It was one thing when Wii used motion controls to set the world on fire, but this? No. There's no risk of copying this.

If its successful why not remember the wii

Vita came before Switch and SEGA Nomad came before Vita and TurboExpress came before Nomad. The idea has been done before but never that well and Nomads case poor timing and price plus batt life. Switch put the nail in the coffin for Vita. I love the Vita but Switch is a fully realized version.

Dreamcast kinda did with VMUs and then Sony copied that with PocketStation. Dreamcast also connected to Neo Geo Pocket with a link cable like how Gamecube to GBA. The idea of taking your console game with you has been attempted many times but with Switch the tech finally allows it to be viable.

I don't see how MS could. They don't make portable game machines and they would not succeed either esp as the biggest market for those won't buy Xbox products at all. No I MS and Sony will go the Power route  they have been.
