If this is true, you have to consider cooling. A smaller form factor would be much harder to cool.

Yea but they will figure that out. We have phones that are slimmer and faster that can handle cooling just fine. I m sure Nvidia will figure it out if they actually do it. Maybe even make the smaller very a bit fatter to compensate.

There is nothing to figure out. It's simple physics. They only thing they can do is cut the clock speed of the chipset to reduce heat output. Sure in a few years they could produce the same chip on an even smaller manufacturing process to allow for a smaller form factor, but the only way to achieve this and hit their early 2017 launch date it go with a larger form factor.

I m pretty sure they can add in heatsinks and etc to dissipate the heat. Just make it a bit fatter to compensate... That is generally what companies do if they have this problem.

I don't believe it. Hopefully Nintendo realizes that this isn't the way to go. If the hybrid fails then they hurt the one fanbase they are strong in, and that would be more devastating than having a dud home console.

It all sounds good, but I fear that Nintendo needs to have a package of some kind, I mean a solid way of expressing what all of that means.
Is it the 3DS heir? Is it the WiiU follow up? Why should people buy it?
I mean, we will buy it anyways, Nintendo does not need to worry about hardcore lifelong gamers, we even bought the WiiU, so that much shows how much we are hard to please and convince.
But, to gain the big market, they need a very strong message.
I wonder...

If their next portable fails it's likely curtains for them as a hardware maker anyway, so doubling down on the portable and giving the portable all the games instead of keeping the bigger games segragated on the console is probably Nintendo's best bet at this point. Though they are in this position because a series of bad decisions over the course of the last 20 years.

The thing that kinda makes me go "hmmm" is there's nothing here that really sounds like anything new. It's basically a portable Wii U from the sounds of it.

I guess the real question will be what will be considered a failure? By combining their handheld and console markets, you're looking at 70m units. But how many of that is double dipping? And what happens to software sales when you figure the double dipping is only done once with NX? I really am not sure that the hybrid is the right way to go.

Well thats just the screen. This one comes with a console.

We also have 1080p phones for less and if the rumors are true, the hardware will be pretty old by phone standards so...

The resolution race for smartphones is more a pissing contest for smartphone manufacturers than it is helpful to the consumer. 720p had pixels nearly at the point of being indistinguishable on screens this small, and 1080p is almost overkill. But now they're aiming for 1440p? And 4k? In phones??  Phones have amazing GPUs in them now, but because of this resolution war, we're never going to know it because they're negating any performance gain by taxing the device with pointless resolution boosts. I applaud Nintendo for making the smart choice for performance over dick measuring (if any of this is accurate).

Yea I do think anything over 1080p is a bit overkill. Like on my Galaxy S7, I can set the resolution of a game to 1080p instead of 1440p and I really can't tell the difference. The screen really is too small. So I agree that with Nintendo, its a good thing they aren't focusing on the resolution much. I can understand it for phones tho tbh since phone VR is becoming a thing and resolution between 1080p and 1440p on a VR headset is very noticable.

Well it would be weird if they made games for multi-touch screens on their devices though. Its like saying Sony makes games with "analog sticks" gameplay.

yeah I think you're right

I really hope we're talking about a resistive multi-touch screen here. They are just more versatile than capacitive ones and using your fingers just plain sucks for  lot of gameplay purposes. It's fine for navigating menus or using and on-screen keyboard, but I dare anyone to try and play Spirit Tracks with their fingers.

Fingers tend to cover up way too much of the screen, and are too impresice for fun, complex gameplay, imo.

Resistive multi-touch offers the best of both worlds, multi-touch for menu and multimedia navigation and stylus controls for games.

By traveling, I mean like camping or going far away and etc... I do still go out

Fair enough. I still have a hard time believing the screen size for the NX controller is the same as the WiiU one. I mean wouldnt that mean they have learned nothing and are releasing WiiU 2?

Wii U failing has little to do with having a 6.2 inch screen
