There is nothing to figure out. It's simple physics. They only thing they can do is cut the clock speed of the chipset to reduce heat output. Sure in a few years they could produce the same chip on an even smaller manufacturing process to allow for a smaller form factor, but the only way to achieve this and hit their early 2017 launch date it go with a larger form factor. 

I m pretty sure they can add in heatsinks and etc to dissipate the heat. Just make it a bit fatter to compensate... That is generally what companies do if they have this problem.
