It does make sense in the context that it would have to be a certain size to dissipate the heat. Could also just be a dev kit thing, dev kits don't look like final product.

Then explain the drawing and it's clear lack of extra width. If the dimensions are from a dev kit then the final should be smaller hence likely to fit in your pocket, but again the drawing, if all their info is based on the devkit, then the drawing should be aswell, yet it's not.

EDIT: Btw here are the dimensions for the Nvidia Shield: 221 x 126 x 9.2. It has more width and height, but less depth, and I imagine an 8" 1080p screen is more taxing than a 6" 720p one. So yeah I don't think it's that much of a stretch for them to fit it within similar dimensions to a 3DS XL.

Which Nvidia Shield are you talking about? The portable or the console? The portable doesn't use a Tegra X1, it uses the older Tegra K1.

You can't just arbitrarily make the screen size smaller like that either, the reason why it's an 8-inch tablet is because it needs that room inside to keep the chip cool. You also need phyiscal controls on the sides which will take up space, so you can't make it smaller in that way either.

That 8-inch Tegra tablet would not fit inside your pocket unless you're wearing MC Hammer pants.

Damn right you get back in here! You only responded to half of my post though...

Huh I thought it was same chip, but nope you're right, my bads. Still, you can't tell me the X1 can't at all work inside 3DS dimensions but will suddenly work perfectly inside the same dimensions just with 2 inches of extra width as this rumor says.

It can ... maybe by 2018 or so when 7nm production of chips is more common place.

Right now it can't. This is why Nvidia has been unsuccessful in getting the Tegra X1 chips into any smartphones .... they simply cannot work in a form factor that small.

They'll be able to do a NX shrink by 2018 most likely, but until then if they are using the Tegra X1/X2 tier chip ... it has to be a tablet size device. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Personally I don't really see the appeal in having graphics that good (Wii U quality or better) but limiting them to a tiny 5-inch display anyway. You're going to want some screen real estate to play games like Zelda: BotW, even 6.2-inch as a screen is probably a bit small. Wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo also offers an NX XL which is even bigger in the future as well (8-9 inch screen).

This still a ways off from a 3DS XL:

That's not going into anyone's jeans.

So... you don't believe this rumor then?

I doubt the D-Pad will be split. The regular D-Pad is just a staple of Nintendo and have been featured on every one of their devices since the NES.

I don't know about every specific, but generally speaking the NX being a tablet size device is not something that needs believing.

If they are using a Tegra X1 or X2 or some customized version thereof ... it has to be a tablet size device.

What I'm talking about 2-4 years in the future where Nintendo may have the option of making a smaller device but we are years away from that.

That's a fancy and unnecessarily long way of saying no lol.

Also, why do you keep repeating the same rhetoric over and over especially when it has nothing to do with anything? This is atleast the third time you went on about how a small device is only possible in the future.

Because you keep bringing up this pocket size idea. It's. Not. Possible.

Not with a Tegra X1/X2 or equivalent. I don't understand why that point befuddles you so. Heat is a real thing, so is battery technology. What you are talking about is only (maybe) possible with 2018 technology if Nintendo is using a Tegra chip.

Quite frankly, it's *good* that Nintendo is not making a pocket sized device, the limitations on such a device would be extreme and the graphics would likely have to be below what a Wii U can produce even, so the version of Zelda: BoTW you'd get for example, would be crappier. And really very, very few people carry around a 3DS in their pocket anyway.

So here was my post: "So... you don't believe this rumor then?" Now point out where I brought that up.

I mean are you even paying attention, I've mostly been questioning the validity of this rumor while you keep trying to avoid it. I'm saying pocketability is possible here mostly because that's what the rumor implies. Though of course, yes I do want and expect the NX to be pocketable since obviously that's what you want in a handheld. You can give me all these reasons why it's not possible and that I should just take your word for it, but I'd rather believe in Nintendo magic than them making a dumb mistake.

as long as the dpad isn't like the wii, gamecube or the 360s then i don't care if it's split.
