Uncharted 2 doesn't really look more impressive than any other game at the time, Killzone 2 came before it and looks as good and even better in many ways but just has less colour variety. I think its more about what you might play, maybe you haven't played The Order and Uncharted 4 and Doom on PC.

I'm just saying its less likely that you'll be amazed by anything as now with each gen the differences will be less noticeable and there wouldn't be one big jump anymore between generations but a more gradual improvement in visuals.

I disagree entirely regarding Uncharted 2. Besides Killzone 2 (which I do agree with you on), there wasn't another console game I would have put next to it at the time. It truly was a step above the rest.

Yes that is my point. Killzone 2 was very impressive and came out before Uncharted 2 yet it doesn't get any credit. Also Killzone 2 had a lot more going on the screen at a time and had more open levels so I think its even more impressive than Uncharted 2.

They weren't impressive for long though. God of War 3 came a few months after Uncharted 2 and blew away both of them. Its still impressive to me on PS4 even compared to many current gen titles.

Driveclub does look very, very good, but I don't think that just because it didn't quite floor me, that I'm not longer capable of being floored.

I'm aware that from now on, graphical progression will appear slower than it did, say, in the 2000s or the 90s, but I'm sure that at some point in the future there will be that one game like Uncharted 2 last gen that might not be a generational transition but still looks so damn impressive compared to anything else on the market that I'll once again be wowed.

Uncharted blows Killzone out of the water for me. Even back in 2009 I always thought KZ2 looked fugly as hell with its monotonous grey environments and tacky filters.

Also, I can see what games look like without playing them; I've seen UC4 and The Order running on a TV screen, and I can see videos of Doom online. And yes, all three do look very nice. Honestly though, I still think the best video game graphics I've seen to date is Star Wars Battlefront on PC.

They actually remained impressive, despite being beaten by both Heavy Rain and God of War III.

They did in a way, as their art directions were different, but Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 did blow them out of the water while having same art style. Killzone 3 also had really lush use of colours unlike its predecessor.

I can understand Killzone 2 not being visually appealing to everyone, but its visuals were not grey at all and the filter was not very noticeable. The bloom though looked amazing and as I said to CGI Killzone 2 had a lot more going in its environments, more NPC's and more open levels while having graphics that matched Uncharted 2.

Videos of Doom would not look as good as the actual game, you need to see it yourself at Ultra settings in 4K on a PC. It looks amazing. I played it on PS4 and my friend played it on PC at 4K and the difference is huge. I'll probably get it again on PC when I upgrade it xD

I disagree about Killzone 3 vs 2. KZ2 still had a more realistic look, despite its sequel's better colors. I also don't think KZ3 had the same artstyle. It was much more vibrant, colorful, many things that war isn't. So, while KZ3 looked better, overall, I still prefer the look of its predecessor.

They had the same art style, KZ3 just uses more colours so it feels less representative of war. It looks far better to me not even talking about the more variety of colours. The environments are a lot more vibrant like the forest level, the character models are improved, lighting is a lot better and there is a greater sense of scale in some of the fights like the one with MAWLR which was incredible in its scope. Also the last level in space was very impressive.

That makes it a different artstyle. In fact, a few of its reviews said the same thing - that with the artstyle changes, it was a different looking game. Same assets/engine, different artstyle and overall look of the title.

I thought art style was about the design of chatracters and environments. I do think both KZ2 and KZ3 have a unique feel to them and both are very good games in their own way. But I can agree that KZ3 doesn't really feel like a sequel to KZ2, that one had a hellish feel to it.

Artstyle is everything involved with the art. The way the colors look, the skin looks, the reflections, the textures, etc, etc... KZ3 recylced a lot from its predecessor, I'll give you that, but with the difference in texture filter/mapping, adjusted deferred rendering, and a complete overhaul of the colors used on many of the assets, it made for a very different looking game.

KZ2 was very drab and war-like (to me, much better at giving it a gritty feel). KZ3 lacked that. Thus, making for a very different look.

I agree with that. To me KZ3's more vibrant look is better.

Pretty much every single level in KZ2 was a murky grey industrial area, and the filters were very overbearing in my view.

And I don't agree at all that it matched Uncharted 2's graphics; UC2 had better textures, better character models, better animation, better framerate, and its bigger setpieces (e.g. the helicopter sequence in Nepal with the collapsing building) had a lot more going on than KZ2's.
