But one day, suddenly, Scorpio will be the Microsoft next gen 4 years after the release of XB1, like X360 was next gen 4 years after the original Xbox. People have to understand that they already had a generation that lasted only 4 years with the OG Xbox. Scorpio will also be released 4 years after XB1. |
I don't expect it to be much different for Sony either. The initial message is that all Scorpio/Neo games will work on the original models of the XB1/PS4 as well, but since both Microsoft and Sony are actively encouraging third parties to use the additional processing power, it shouldn't take long until the versions for the old models begin to suffer in the development process. There might be the argument of userbase, but shiny graphics sell games, so the prettier versions will be prioritized within a year or two.

Yes, exactly this will happen with both consoles, the Scorpion and Neo. A slow gradual shift, so by the time they're announcing Playstation 5 and the Xbox equivalent, most people with original Xbox Ones and PS4s have been prepared to move on.
The new strategy is about gradual shift.
Sony obviously has no interest in saying anything that would harm PS4 sales right now, but they will be forced to accept this same strategy (although forced perhaps is wrong since it's a good strategy for the industry) when it has become clear that the millions of people with a Neo in the future would become very upset if they can't play the games of the next iteration (PS5). And the difference in hardware power between a Neo and PS5 wouldn't be very big anyway.
