Forums - Nintendo - MCV: NX Graphics In Between A PS3 And PS4

If Eurogamer's report is correct and it's using Tegra X1, we should be looking at a similar improvement over Wii U graphics as Wii represented over Gamecube; noticeable but not generational.

makes sense. Which IMHO wont help getting ports, but I think alot of people gave up on that.

True but it still sold a lot less than DS. My point is that power doesnt gaurantee sales especially if there is cheaper on the market that is good enough. Hell this is the first gen we've had where the most powerful system is on top (PS4)

What about the fifth gen? Couldn't PlayStation 1 discs hold more than N64 cartridges?

maybe. nothing to do with the actual power of the HW though as the N64 was still more powerful

We're getting Sonic 2017, that's something!

Power is a cool feature but it alone does not sell a device. Besides, PSP sold over 80 million, so kinda hard to say people didnt care about it.

As for Vita, it didnt fail because people dont like powerful handhelds. Take a look at the top 20 PSP games, most of those franchises didnt release on Vita.

Vita did not recieve Grand Theft Auto, Monster Hunter, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, God of War, Midnight Club, etc. Power doesnt mean much if the device doesnt have compelling software.

Also another big reason PSP sold so well was because it was pretty much the only legitimate mobile multimedia devices during its prime. By the time Vita released smartphones & tablets had become the go to mobile multimedia devices making that not such a strong selling point for Vita as it was for PSP.

Well no shame in that, DS is the best selling handheld of all time and virtually tied with PS2 as best selling gaming device of all time.

I get what your saying but your original post was worded a bit strangely, it came off as you were calling people who liked the idea of a powerful handheld hypocrites.

It certainly won't be getting the likes of Battlefield, Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, GTA, etc, but I'd say it has a chance at absorbing at least some of the 3DS's Japanese third party support.

It'll get more Japanese support than the 3DS actually I think.

This is what Japanese developers have basically wanted for a long time. Some way to have their "real" main line games, but with access to Nintendo's portable market base (the market leader in Japan).

If it can run PS4/XB1 ports I think it'll get Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, Resident Evil REMake 2, Dragon Quest XI (well already kinda confirmed), and a whole lot more.

The problem in the past was the 3DS/DS were so underpowered that Japanese devs couldn't really put a lot of their IP on those systems and have the experience be what the fanbase of those franchises expects (ie: Final Fantasy). NX can change this if Nintendo is smart.

Regarding ports, getting PS4/X1 software up and running on Tegra X1 is a feat similar to getting it running on Wii U/PS3/360, so I don't really expect it'll get many ports from PS4/X1.

In term of Japanese games, most PS4 games are also released on Vita or PS3 still.

The big stuff like Final Fantasy XV, FF7 Remake, KH3, the ones actually made for PS4/X1, aren't coming to PS3 or Vita.

A portable would have several cheats it could employ though ... first and foremost those games on a portable screen will look just fine even at 960x540.

That means they can run on the portable at 1/4th the pixels, which also means suddenly a 500 GFLOP GPU in portable mode probably would be able to run a lot of ports.

Here's a Nvidia 730M laptop mobile GPU btw (550 GFLOPS) ... it can run PS4/XB1 only games like Assassin's Creed Unity at 720p even:

Here's it running Fallout 4 (another PS4/XB1 only title):
