Why not both? : D They can make small games on mobile and their bigger console games on their consoles. Seems fair to me.

Because MS and Sony fans will keep bitching that Nintendo should go 3rd party because they can't play Nintendo games on PS/Xbox consoles. :)

I don't really get it. If people want to play their games that badly, why not just buy the console? I'd do that for any console have has games I want on it.

Not once did I say they there is no reason for them to go third party.  What I said was one successful trip into a different realm for profits doesn't mean they are going to, or should, upend their entire business model.

All companies need to change and evolve to stay relevant and maximize their profits.  Those changes don't happen overnight, and contrary to what apparently a ton of VGC people think, they don't have to happen at the expense of the company's current offerings.

The black and white idea of "they won't ditch their hardware as long as it makes a profit" actually isn't bullshit though as they have proven to go that route for the last 30 years now.  Will they eventually stop with hardware?  Absolutely.  Is it going to be because Pokemon Go, a game they are actually a MINORITY stockholder in, is doing gangbusters on the app stores atm?  Not at all.

When the positives for them going third party, or changing their plan as they did from cards to games, outweigh the negatives we will see them evolve.  Until then, people will have to rely on what is most likely going to be dedicated hardware and unique-to-mobile IP experiences out of Nintendo.

You literally said "as long as Nintendo makes a profit on their hardware they will continue making it".

But in your last paragraph here, you proceed to sort of contradict that. It's not about if they make money with their own hardware, it's about wether or not they think they will make more money by going third party. Just as you say in your last paragraph.

Glad to see that we agree.

Yes, what I should've said was "acceptable or expected profit" as that is the determining factor for them and all business.

A mario platformer on mobile wouldnt have half the success Pokemon GO has.

Pokemon has a way bigger fanbase than Mario - as much as I hate to say it :/

Also as much as I would love to have Nintendo games on PC - I have a bad feeling it would end up like SEGA lol

No, I would agree with you in a sense. I've been thinking about it, and I feel very few games could reach the success Pokemon Go has been having, even from Nintendo. I don't think even Mario could hit status Go has. Pokemon is just that special and unique of a game.

OP doesn't sound like a prediction at all. Thread title is wrong.

Maybe Sony, MS and Nintendo should go mobile and PC only since the userbase of those are bigger...?

Yes. MS....which they are doing. Nintendo may go extinct so yes for them. Most PC and mobile games make they're way to PS4 and X1 anyway. Today I'm buying Kerbal space program. So yes. Everyone but Sony which still has a solid business that has plenty of exclusivity not only in games but in hardware like PS vita and PSVR to earn my 400 euro.

Funny thing is, and I feel like a broken record after saying this through multiple threads, that every company that is old enough has passed through bad moments. And one of those companies is Sony. Not too long ago, they had difficulties overall in the company, especially with the PS3.I mean sure, the PS3 was a comercial success, but financially speaking, it was a catastrophe.A money eating black hole.If you were to apply this same logic with Nintendo on Sony, they should have gone third party after the PS3.After all, it dosent matter if you sell consoles if you dont profit with it, much less bleed money. So why should Nintendo be different?Especially since the only one failling to meet expectations is the Wii U?The 3DS was successful, amiibos were successful, the mobile initiative is successful so far.And Nintendo has history with successful home consoles.

Now, if the NX fails as bad as the Wii U, then ill agree that the debate over wether Nintendo go third party or not have will have more merit, but until then, its simply stupid, especially when Nintendo have much more to gain having its own hardware and releasing its games on it.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Going multiplat means a lot less people buying Nintendo's console and eventually they would be forced to stop making consoles and just games for other systems.

Mod changed the title.

More appropriate words would have been "Pipe Dream"

NX isnt real?

Old thread, unoriginal. Can't you think of anything better to do than waste your time beating a dead horse?

Not really. No console Pokemon game comes close to any console Mario game. Both Pokemon and Mario are huge on their handhelds.

Thats because they didnt put any effort in making a actual Gamefreak based Pokemon game on console.

I'm pretty sure Pokemon is way bigger than Mario on handhelds too especially since people like double dipping on buying both versions too

The latest iteration for both games is proof of that

Super Mario 3D Land - 10.75 mil
New Super Mario Bros 2 - 9.71 mil

Pokemon X/Y - 13.87 mil
Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire - 10.45 mil

I honestly doubt a F2P Mario platformer would outdo a F2P Pokemon game that makes people go outside.

What would a F2P mario platformer do? If you jump irl - you'll jump in the game too XD? Doesnt sound as exciting especially since people who dont even play Pokemon are actually playing it.

If the Mario games had two versions as well, they would probably outsell Pokemon.

The infinite runner games were very popular on mobiles. A mario game like that could be very popular.
