Forums - Nintendo - Will Mini NES be a huge success this Holiday?

It's cheap enough to be an impulse buy for a lot of people during the holidays, but I don't see it being a runaway success. A lot of people who like Nintendo's retro NES games either own a console to run them via Virtual Console, or emulate them on their phones/PCs.

This feels like something Nintendo and retailers will woefully understock I'm afraid.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

The Mini NES is a joke. No body was asking for this between old NES games, emulators and Wii and WiiU virtual consoles games. We already have or own most of these games. This is Nintendo trying to sell us something we already own. It might turn into a novelty gift but only if the price is low enough. Don't expect to see this come next Xmas.

It might be like one of those small Coke freezers. They're kind of useless but still some people get them cause they look cool.

We're suppose to get the NX this Xmas, what is this Mini NES crap. I rather they focus their effort on the NX. Sure they might make a quick  profit on this gimmick but how long is Nintendo going to screw their fanbase.

Forum goers like us will be excited for it. Wether there are enough of us to make it a huge success depends on what you mean by huge success.

EDIT: You mean like a main console? Well sure. The Wii U is a main console and I don't expect that to sell too much this holiday really.

It's too expensive

Great idea, I think folks like us will love it! Not sure it'll be a mainstream hit though, but I like how Nintendo are finally starting to think outside their old box (and releasing new boxes... ).

It will sell better than the Wii U, I think it will do better than some people think.

The NES is the most cherished thing from a lot of people's childhoods and they will want to share that again with their kids.

I think it'll sell quite well, depending if Nintendo advertise it or not, in the end it's just 60 bucks...

I could see this being a popular christmas present for families.

I think it ll be a success.

'it will sell better than the Wii U'? maybe for this one holiday season since the Wii U is dead and has no games releasing.

I'm torn on the product. I think its kind of cool and is an easy sell for Nintendo to pull in some revenue, but I know personally I prefer playing on original systems. the question is what the demand is to play NES games but not on the original system

I think it will sell well but whether it will be a huge hit is questionable. It certainly has a lot more drawing power than, say, the Atari Flashback- as things like Castlevania, Mega Man, Mario Bros, Zelda- are all much more desirable and replayable these days.

definitely something to keep an eye on
