Forums - Sony - I hope Sony does not listen to Microsoft call for open online gaming

I can't even begin to explain how annoyed reading the OP made me. Microsoft is making a move that is good for both consumers and Devs, yet you want Sony to ignore the olive branch because it could make their lead slightly less outstanding. People have to buy consoles they might not want just to play a game they both have just become of some ass-backwards policy, and you want that to stay? You want multiplayer communities to stay artificially segregated? I genuinely don't understand people like you.

Are you talking cross-play between the gaming platforms or exclusives being on pc?

I'll address both I guess.

Sony already said they were on board with cross-play with xbox and has been allowing crossplay between pc and PS3/PS4. MS tried to act like it was their idea not that long with that publicity stunt of theirs.

I'm completely fine with 3rd party console exclusives being on playstation consoles and pc. Sony will never bring their first party exclusives to PC because sony doesn't have an OS they're trying to sell. Sony wouldn't benefit from a move like that.

Yeah, I'm gonna need a quote and link for your claim that Sony is open to cross-play with other consoles. As far as I am aware, they only ever stated that they were open to cross play with PC, not consoles. They've never said anything about Xbox or Nintendo systems the way Microsoft has, so Microsoft isn't just trying to "pretend like it was their idea." It was absolutely their idea.

For FFXIV ARR to be on the PS3 and PS4, sony had to agree to cross-platform play or cross-play between all platforms. MS wouldn't agree to cross-play and that's why they never got the game on their consoles.

I haven't seen anything that suggests that sony was ever against cross-play and only examples that suggest that sony has always been for it. On the other hand, ms has always been as fickle as 14 year old girl about it.

I think that's proof enough.

With Windows Store, they havent made any significant effort to get attention before 2016. Only recently did they start bringing and announcing AAA games. Prior to that it was just mobile games. They arent even competing per se, Windows Store is instead coexisting. Windows Store doesent need to steal userbase from Steam, it can share their audience for the exclusives. I think many of us have Steam, Origin, and Windows Store content.

I think MS has been content with Windows and other PC related stuff making billions so PC gaming was never a focus. They are already in the PC business and even Steam help push their OS.

Xbox gaming has importance because that was a market outside of PC gaming.

I think you are givng the Windows store more credit then it actualy deserves, I know of it however I have never used it (even have 10 on my laptop) just my example. But as far as what ive ive seen and heard the Windows store is no where near the level it needs to be able to make this cross platform thing happen there needs to be a LOT of work done to even be in the same realm as other companies.

Well people are already using the Windows Store based on user reviews.

Simply using my common sense... more people will use Windows Store as long as it gets notable content. The crossplatform thing is already happening with Killer Instinct.

#1 if you want to play a game and it's only on one console, or you want to play a game to play multiplayer with your friends who have that console, then you do want that console. "I want to play CoD with my friends, but they all have it on Xbox, but I don't want to buy an Xbox"......well, then you don't really want to play CoD with your friends, now do you?

#2 Oh, it's "ass-backwards" now to keep online just to your platform? Why was no one saying this years ago? Every other "ass-backwards" policy MS had was reversed because everyone made a big enough stink behind it, such as Netflix being behind a paywall. It wasn't "ass-backwards" a year ago, but now all of a sudden that Microsoft is playing every card they can to stay relevant this gen, cross-play being their most recent one, playing online with just your platform is "ass-backwards"? Are "console generations" now "ass-backwards" because Microsoft wants to get rid of them?

2015 and 2016 there was definitely an effort.  2014 they were probably planning their moves.

Before that they were focused on their failed windows phone venture.  Hopefully they have more success with the pc store but as of now they've made very few gains.

They are seriously trying to challenge steam and it's an uphill battle.  I wish them luck.

What notable games did Windows store get prior to 2016? GTA: San Andreas and the Halo twin-stick shooters? You know I'm right on this.

Lets not drag the phones thing into this. Very irrelevant and is MS the only company with some failures? Nope.

Going head on with Steam is not a good idea nor is it what they're doing. MS has so many interesting games they could put on Windows Store. Hence, bring new games and port old stuff to the Windows Store. Competing with Steam isn't worthwhile and frankly that isn't where all the money in PC gaming is.

The idea that there is no completion in the capitalist endeavors of console sales is a delusion in itself. Opening up online completely to Microsoft would slightly weaken sonys sales by default since people would no longer be tied to brands. Since consoles are secondary to microsoft the pro consumer choice would put Sony and the console realm at odds with a brand less society (since consoles formats and games are their bread and butter now). They would be playing right into microsofts hands.

The communities are not artificially segregated. The concept of something being artificial would come after the replication or destruction of the true nature of things( thus being replaced by a man made substitute. Microsoft only cares about consoles as a measure of expanding their os. There would be little benefit to Sony strategically from this. What makes consoles special is that they have their own rules opposed to PC. PC is the only true and open place where online is not segregated, regardless of brand under Windows.

MS want to compete with STEAM. its just they've got to climb mountain everest naked carrying a camel first.

I wish them luck but if this fails all it will have done is damage their console.  Why buy a x1  if you game on pc when the pc gets all its exclusives.  Pc + ps4 will be a better option.
