Forums - Nintendo - Explanation for Lack of Female Hero in Zelda: Breath of the Wild Doesn’t Add Up

It's crystal clear they don't want to change the genders of their characters at all. No explanation is really needed. I can understand a creator's integrity in regards to not wanting to change anything about their characters.

Shirtless Link

Could have still done a shirtless Link...

It's not a very good explanation, but it's an explanation nonetheless. And it sounds like an explanation that could well be true.

More importantly, I don't see why Link should be forced to be female.

This is so dumb. In the view of the creators and authors of the story, Link is a male character. That is what they created. For them, there isn't a female "version" of Link.

Can this "Link needs to be a girl" movement just go away? Link is a MAN, and always has been. There is no reason to change the storyline to make him a woman, and I'm not understanding why so many think this is where Nintendo needs to go with these games, THEY DON'T! These are amazing, damsel in distress style games, the girl gets taken, Link swoops in and rescues her. I see no reason for them to change the protagonist for some sort of gender equality movement. It's not cool that this agenda is being pressed so hard, especially into mainstays like the Zelda series. These are some of the best games in existence, and will continue to be, there is no reason to change anything. If you don't like that the hero is a man, just don't play it. Stop trying to force Nintendo into doing something that makes absolutely no sense, they got this! They haven't messed up a real Zelda game, nor have any of them been boring, or needed a female hero. Until that day comes, these games need to stay the same.

My two cents, sorry if I offended anyone.

All i know I was appalled at how those two girls sexualized Link throughout Treehouse demo playtroughs, keeping him shirtless in dead cold climate and yet there's not one article from usual SJW brigade (Polygon/Kotaku/EG) on sexualizing characters in video games.

/s....or not

Pathetic. The character is who he is. If you want to play a different character then make a different game.

This.

I spontaneously neigh sometimes, but I don't think that's indicative of anything.

Anyway, the explanation does make sense. If Zelda has the triforce of wisdom and fights as the protagonist of the game, what does Link do as the owner of the triforce of courage? Swapping the roles of Zelda and Link (Zelda is courage, Link is wisdom) wouldn't work either, because men and wisdom? Nobody believes that.

Another option would be a female Link (courage) and Zelda in her usual role, but then you have two women taking down a man (Ganon). That doesn't make sense either. Men lose to women in real life all the time, so let them have at least their video games.

What a sexist article.

Hell let's make Ganon female too.  Though you would absolutely need to also make it a love triangle so you can get the full support of the LGBT community as well.  May even wanna make Ganon trans, just in case.

He's/she's called Yuga, m8. Nintendo is one step ahead

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
