Forums - Nintendo - Aonuma's opinion about the wii u gamepad.

This is indeed true, i love the Wii U gamepad just for off-tv or lazy bed.

When i turn on my tv, i leave the gamepad charging & switch to Wii U controller pro.

Oh snap, that's a strong jab at Miyamoto.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

There are a number of benefits to be achieved with a second screen. Just gotta make use of it properly.

The reason why they are not using the gamepad on this new Zelda is probably because they dont want the WiiU version to have any advantage to the NX one.

I'm inclined to believe this seeing how Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on WiiU made minimal use of the gamepad for inventory management. Wasn't disruptive at all.

Still, hoping the gamepad is compatible with the NX.

I've said this very thing before. Even the term "HUD" ... when some people were saying "you can move the HUD to the Wii U gamepad, that's great" ... the whole concept is anti-intuitive, HUD is a term from aviation and the HUD is meant to be a viewable set of displays that give the pilot information WITHOUT having to look away from the main window.

A HUD that you have to look at defeats the entire point, which is basically what Aonuma is saying too. The Wii Game Pad was simply a very poorly thought out idea.

A 2nd screen only really works to me if it's directly adjacent to the 1st screen like with the DS and 3DS. For all the Wii U games that seem to need the 2nd screen (like Mario Maker), I feel like a trackpad on the controller would have done a good enough job. I mean, doing things like sorting inventory or having a map available at all times are nice features but if it needed a 2nd screen that's going to eat up a ton of battery life on the contoller and add 50-100 dollars to the Wii U's price tag, then I could have done without it.

I hope Aonuma's criticism is a sign that there won't be another 2nd screen on the NX's controller because the last thing I would want is an expensive controller gimmick that's going to significantly add to the console's retail price at the expense of potential power.

Aonuma uses Fiery Shots!
The opposite Miyamoto avoids the Attack!
Miyamoto uses Pokémon GO Plus !
It's super Sold-out !

Watch the next Miyamoto game beeing a F-Zero game where you only see the road and the cars on the TV screen and only the Gamepad displays the obstacles

It really does. Even when its being used for non-intense things like an inventory. It just breaks immersion to be looking up and down.

The real useful feature is the off tv gameplay which I most of the time use.

He's right though. The only game I have where the Gamepad is really needed and adds something to the experience is Super Mario Maker, because with that game the Gamepad is actually the thing you're looking at. I do use it often though, for off-tv play. A neat feature, I probably played more hours off-tv than on tv. However when I do use the tv, I nearly always use the Pro Controller. Unless I'm too lazy to get it and I happen to already hold the Gamepad.
