I've said this very thing before. Even the term "HUD" ... when some people were saying "you can move the HUD to the Wii U gamepad, that's great" ... the whole concept is anti-intuitive, HUD is a term from aviation and the HUD is meant to be a viewable set of displays that give the pilot information WITHOUT having to look away from the main window.
A HUD that you have to look at defeats the entire point, which is basically what Aonuma is saying too. The Wii Game Pad was simply a very poorly thought out idea.
