You're trolling right? XBO isn't a console? lol

how am I trolling? Microsoft. Themselves just stated that the Xbox as a platform is no longer just a console eco system, so if if its Eco system is no longer just a game console Eco system what is it than..when is a games console no longer just a games console..i mean is It something more now? The point is Microsoft themselves state its no longer just a game console eco system anymore. And it is something more!

thus , there is a very good chance when the Xbox one went through the stargate, it 💕 loved itself so much, that it birth itself into a new life form..😜 absolutely amazing.

"Xbox is no longer an exclusively console ecosystem " doesn't mean that "Xbox One is no console".

Nothing else we need to know to understand that XBO is a console and Xbox as a platform isn't only on consoles anymore since they call their service on PC also Xbox.

Xbox= the service, Xbox One = a console

You don't really need an optical drive though. (Yes my PC has Blu-ray.)
They can simply just bundle a download code with every console disc purchase.

Microsoft should have partnered with Steam rather than that terrible Games For Windows Live/Universal Windows Platform.

They cannot do that because sites like G2A and Kinguin would allow people to re-sell that code, making a big mess.
If the code is also tied to the console, the Xbox would have a DRM wall people would hate, big mess again.

Microsoft didn't think about this, the way they announced it is horrible just no way around it. And yes you are right they should have partnered with Steam for the HTC Vive and the multi-windows platform, but they want to become "the new steam" with this platform.

When you merge 2 platforms the weaker platform will always pull the other one down and you seem to know how BAD windows 10 store is, so it will hurt Xbox in the end. Like i said, this might change in the future. But why not build a good platform on PC before you make a huge announcement like this

The DRM would be no different to how it is right now, so that is hardly an argument.

Reselling of the key is a legitimate concern, but hardly worth worrying about, they won't have the volumes that will be required to make a significant impact.

We actually see a similar concept with movies, buy a Blu-ray, get the DVD disc included AND a download code and it actuallys works brilliantly.

Its still a conole with console exclusive games.

Been like that for at least 3 years... XBox brand has been outside of the console market for a while.... Nothing new here... They are converging their markets no WW that's the difference with before where they were expending their presence... Now they try to blur the line between devices and that's true across their software line not just the XB line, but the office and OS line just to name those...

well, isn´t Playstation also a console ecosystem anymore considering PSNow and Nintendo a console ecosystem anymore considering toys, smartphone games and more?

Oh and lets be real here... You don't make money with hardware especially in the console space... Saying it will hurt XBox to be able to have a bigger user base without moving more hw is plain anti XB BS.... The "I would have bought an XB to play this or that exclusive" mantra is not only usually BS this far out in the Gen... It would have been bought used for the console and most like the game too making it absolutely unprofitable for MS... But it is in any case completely insignificant compare to the potential profit increase they made possible by opening their market on more of THEIR WIN10 PLATFORMS. Because lets face it XB is just the way to call windows10 play space... Games stay exclusive to MS windows10 and that's what matters to them no matter how anti MS try to flip it to make it seem non exclusive....

Windows eco system then?

yeah XB is nothing more than the play space on windows running devices... Been pressing on an XBox logo to play games on my windows phone since 2012... Nothing new there... Just reaffirming their converging global strategy lets not forget MS is a software/OS company first and foremost

Well if they do that, I would be all-aboard, but sadly, that is not the case right now, I hope they follow your suggestion because I like physical media.

It's still all DirectX with Windows underneath.

Now PC Developer can keep making high end PC games, and have a high end console to play them on. Plus, mobile and tablets keep getting better and people can scale the games to run on them.

As long as they stay on Microsoft DirectX API they are happy. This is how I see their plan.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
