Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who else is underwhelmed by GT Sport?

The back and forth on the internet about graphics can make one sick to their stomach from all the side to side, backwards and forwards movements of opinions.

Let me know when we decide these things to be consistent for both MS and Sony:

1) it's a beta/early build textures will get better, you just hate my (insert console)

2) 60 FPS over 30fps is more important than graphics

3) Gameply trumps graphics, we don't care what graphics look like

It is hard to keep up with the Internet game release standards when the above defenses move, twist and contort game to game.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

Bless you. At this point I'd be willing to accept all kinds of irrational or counterintuitive beliefs, as long as they remain consistent from game to game, platform to platform.

Exactly, opinions will differ because our taste differ but at least people can make their opinions consistent between games and platforms.

I never been disappointed by a GT, so I'll wait for the release to buy it. If for the first time I end up underwhelmed ok.

I'm going to be going back and forth on this game until it releases. The cancelled beta isn't filling me with confidence but gifs like this give me hope:

But why would they put out two builds like this? It's just doing them harm. Which pic do you think will do the rounds?

Seems you answered your own question, time constraints.
If they don't have the time to put out a beta, I guess they also didn't have that much time to spend on the trailer, or a latest polished build for that event. At least it seems they have their priorities right for once, finish the game first instead of making fancy bullshot trailers.

I don't care for graphics that much, but...Logitech G25 support or they can keep the game.

And people talking about PS2 foliage... when was the last time you hooked up a 480i PS2 game to compare the foliage with this game? You may say the background is underwhelming (and is unfinished) but PS2 standard is crazy call... even the standard cars on PS3 didn't really look like PS2 materials as much as people wanted to say,

The trailer looked bad but watching the live stream and reading impressions of the gameplay was even worse.

The bumper car physics are still in full effect. There was at least one spot where a racer went off the road and immediately did like four quick 360's. That's the type of stuff I expect to see when Bowser hits Luigi with a turtle shell in Mario Kart, not in what is supposed to be a sim racer.

Apparently cars still have no damage modeling and we all heard how terrible they sounded. Just disappointment across the board for me. I'm not even going to bother holding out hope that they have finally updated the franchises lackluster AI.

Idk, it seems to me that for years now PD's obsession with making car porn has gotten in the way of them actually making a good game. It was a lot better on older systems when they had less power to work with which left them more time to work on gameplay. Now they spend so much time flying around the world snapping pictures and so much time rendering each car the games take forever and suffer in core gameplay areas.

I just watched a Nurburgring race on GT Sport and I disagree completely.  Like, absolutely and in the most emphatic terms.  There are two big wrecks right at the start and several more small crashes and the game looks like it does a fantastic job with taps and bumps not completely taking out your opponent.  I'm very impressed with that, especially after the total chaos of Forza 6.  Hits seem solid instead of the cars lookling like they're made of rubber.  Yeah, these are great drivers but that would only make a small difference when they're out of control.

Disappointed to hear that they still haven't fixed the sound. They've had a looooong time to get it right now, with four full iterations in the main series stretching over around 12-13 years to get it right.
I know Yamauchi has said that they want it "real" instead of artificially enhanced in any way, but I happen to know for a fact that V8 muscle cars don't sound like muffled 4 cylinder engines or that screaming V6 engines with massive turbo's sound a lawnmower trimming a football pitch.
The engine sounds in the GT series are by far its biggest weakness, and it's kind of a big deal in a racing sim.

As for gameplay and features, I don't really play online so I don't care about that, I'm just hoping they have more customization and parts (especially performance parts), since they removed large chunks of this in GT 5 and 6 (you couldn't even adjust individual gear ratios in GT 5 before a patch arrived).
Overall, it seems like the series is not making the same progress as the hardware it releases on over the years, as if the projects become too ambitious and ultimately end up under-delivering in the end.
At least for me, I was disappointed with both GT games on the PS3, especially the visual side and the sound design, removing customization and tuning options was also a really bad idea and the driving physics have a long way to go to be like real life, for now.
