Forums - Gaming - The moment my Kinect became a fantastic peripheral

I have been a fan of the Kinect from the 360 days, but have been annoyned with MS for not utilizing it to its fullest potential with the X1.

But today it became essential to my X1, when my nephew got a Kinect and we Skyped while playing Star Wars Battlefront. Having both visual and audio connection during multiplayer with great quality and snapped besides the game, made it feel like older days, sitting in the couch and playing splitscreen with a buddy.

It´s sad that MS hasn´t been able to make full use of this device since it can provide great enjoyment in party games aswell as being a superior addition to basically anything else when it comes to multiplayer.

Anyone else using Kinect this way?

Well, you could just place a tablet or smartphone in front of you. But yeah, why not. It's both on the screen.

No I haven't tried the Kinect in that way. Sounds almost as good as couch co-op. I currently don't have live gold because it's was either psplus or gold. Does it put a small screen in the corner or what?

Yes, it puts a smaller screen up at the right corner. It reduces the screen somewhat but not much. It's absolutely great for getting that couch feeling :).

Yeah, it's completely different since this becomes part of the gaming experience.

Not sure I would want to be watching or being watched like that while playing a game, not only for the loss of some of the screen size from the game but also... when you play couch co-op, do you stare at your friends face? :D I don't see the comparison really.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

With Skype and a display with PiP mode, or a TV with similar capabilities, this can be done without Kinect as well. But it's still cool! I really miss the 90's when we would huddle together and play multiplayer, Goldeneye on split-screen and Heroes of Might & Magic on Hot Seat!

Yeah, its pretty cool.

On a TV though it takes up way too much room, but when I play Halo 3 on my projector, its fucking epic. Brings me right back to the 07/08 days of playing 4 split screen on a white duvet sheet. Miss those days.

Kinect is a great accessory, just too expensive and needed more notable content.

well, if you as example  score a goal in Fifa  it can be very nice to look in the face of the other human you play against. Not only to see his reaction but also to let him see your face. That's at least kinda social, definitely more as having him only on the headset.

Not sure how you don't see how this makes totally sense to look in the face of someone you talk to from time to time especially if there are fun moments between you and the other person.

It definitely also increases the tension of a match
