Forums - Gaming - Digital Foundry vs Final Fantasy XV Platinum demo

I don't get why wouldn't they just make the game 720p and just call it day.

There's something of a stigma attached to 720p this gen, as many see it as a "last gen" resolution. Square would get a fair bit of negative publicity if they announced that FFXV would be 720p, especially on PS4.

Personally, I don't agree, as I think games like Star Wars Battlefront and Quantum Break on Xbox One or the better looking first party titles on Wii U still manage to look great at 1280x720.

Yeah, me too, I mean, the combat has depht to it, and I imagine that things get a lot more hectic once you get more than one enemy chasing/attacking you, but for the most part, I think that the game will stay true to tradition; ATTACK>BE HIT>BE AT LOW HEALTH/MAGIC>WARP TO A SAFE PLACE INSTEAD OF USING CURE. Of all the great things that this game could've taken from Kingdom Hearts, the difficulty definitely wasn't one of them.

LOL! You base this on that tech demo?

Yeah, the entire game will be like the tech demo. There won't be any additional abilities, magics, techniques and whatnot in there. Probably only 5 types of enemies, and of course, no leveling/upgrade systems. Everything will be a walk in the part with you only holding the attack button the entire time. xD

I swear, the things some of you conclude based on this demo tech is hilarious.

You're making a lot of assumptions here.

I'm now filled with determination.

I'm sorry, so now not only are we not supposed to take anything away from the demo regarding the technical aspects of the game, but not even the combat system in the demo? Even though that was the whole point of the god damn demo?

Are you shitting me? So what then, we just say this demo had nothing to do with FFXV and pretend it never happened?

The combat system in the demo is garbage. SE said that this demo was the show off the new combat system, it's bad.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

the tech demo isn't going to be part of the game

Is the content in Episode Duscae going to be part of the final game?

It seems a bit wasteful to produce new content solely for the purposes of a demo instead of just taking content from the actual game.

Episode Duscae is a small area of the much bigger Duscae region. The area itself will be in the game but the other content and the small little story they had in it is not going to be part of the game as well. The director confirmed that upon release.

No it doesn't... what?

Witcher 3 doesn't run better?

Why, yes, it definitely does. It runs better and is more stable than Episode Duscae and the Platinum Demo. As for the looks, The Witcher 3 also runs in full 1080p with proper anti-aliasing and motion blur and much further draw distance than what has been shown of Final Fantasy XV so far.  Aesthetically speaking (as in: art style), it's a matter of taste. But from a technical point of view, Final Fantasy XV in its current form doesn't come close to The Witcher 3.

That being said, if Square-Enix manages to get the final game to run at a smooth 30fps (or at least much more consistently than the two demos), and improve the overall IQ, then it has a chance to get up there with The Witcher 3 as one of the best looking open world games on consoles. Until then, the game is simply not in the same league as The Witcher 3.

You should experience the 3 before making such baseless hit and run comments.

Can't wait for the PS4k version

Eh, that would be a Dream :)   1080p/60fps, with better textures and effects.

Actually the whole point of the demo was ". The point of the demo wasn’t to show off the framerate but for fans to experience a part of Final Fantasy XV‘s world."

We get it. You have an axe to grind with this game for whatever reason. The fact you are getting this angry at a demo created in two months is the bigger concern.

A 2 month old demo, created by a small team just to show off the game alittle - and you are taking it as if the real game has already gone gold. The REAL game that the REAL team has been working on - has another 5+ months before it even goes gold.

Let me start off with the bold. I actually don't have any issue with this game at all. This demo is literally my only experience with FF. The issue I have, is with people rushing to say that this demo has apparentley nothing to do with FFXV.

The framerate isn't very good: "No, no, that's not representative of the full game"

So, is this a section of the game? "No, this won't be in the final game"

The graphics are a little weird: "No, they'll be better in the full game"

The gameplay is kind of shallow: "No, that isn't what it will be like when the game launches"

So, why does this demo exist? What does "A part of the FFXV world" mean if it has nothing to do with the actual game?

Basically what I'm saying is that I take issue with anytime anyone says something bad about it, people jump all over them saying it's got nothing to do with the actual game.

PS4K is rumoured to only have twice the power of a PS4. doing 1080p alone will eat up most of its resources let alone hitting 60 frames. If the specs are true then expect one or the other. Not both. PC however..

So, besides the performance, did any one else find the combat system way to simplistic? For smaller enemies you can literally just hold the attack button...

Smaller enemies are at level 1 throughout the demo. The boss at the end is at level 3. If you summon him again he will be at level 15. And then you will be able to unlock 2 secret weapons that represent additional aspects about the combat. ( Time based blocking to break the enemy defense and ranged aerial combo). I imagine that would be a good representation of the full game combat. Let me know if you are interested in some videos.
