Well the Wii U says otherwise, it was not really a joy for a nintendo fan, no Fire Emblem, no Metroid, no ambitious Mario 3D adventure, first nintendo console to not get an exclusive Zelda, even a nintendo console can disappoint nintendo fans if they dont deliver

Well then show me a Nintendo fan that doesnt like the WiiU...

I can show you plenty of french ones with whom i talked for years and were hardcore fans of nintendo, and then  became, like me, former nintendo fans after the WiiU

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Ya know, the Gamecube wasn't that far off the PS2 in terms of 3rd party support. And it had third party exclusives (RE 4, MGS Twin Snakes). Yet it certainly didn't win by a landslide...

GCN wasn't the cheapest DVD player on the market and it used the dev-hated mini disks. The GCN wasn't a well designed machine for its market at all. People also like to pretend the PS1 and PS2's success wasn't as based on as much of a hardware gimmick as the Wii was.

Don't think having the most third party support is a "gimmick". Forget the PS2, GameCube couldn't even beat the XBox and the XBox only had 4 years on market and GCN was $99.99 for the entire second half of its life cycle.

Nintendo has branding issues IMO. A lot of people (whether we agree or not) don't want to buy a console that's too "cartoony" or "too kid friendly" IMO.

Given a choice even kids choose something else. I think the Wii was able to overcome this by targetting casual *adults*, but I believe this audience is also now shut off from Nintendo due to sexier/cooler/more convienant smart devices.

I couldn't really say what I wanted to because I was being eagle eyed by my professor, but this is really good news. As a HUGE Nintendo fan, I'm glad they're moving on. In 3D or any art, there's a time where you have to understand that it's done and you need to move on because you've done all you can do and it isn't working. I commend Nintendo for this. They understand that Wii U isn't going anywhere outside of its target audience.

"But Dreamcast was killed off early and look at SEGA"

For the last time, this isn't SEGA we're talking about. This is Nintendo. Even when SEGA was at the height of its popularity, the 16-32 bit era, it wasn't worth a fraction of what Nintendo was worth because Nintendo, being a 1st party company, made the best selling software on their own hardware. It was a win win for them. Nintendo isn't in SEGA's position, they have a bit more stability than what SEGA had.

Wii U was different. I can say that. And I appreciate that but your console can be unique and modern at the same time. Hopefully, that's what Nintendo aims to do with NX. But something troubles me. Iwata and Kimishima kept talking about "big games" for Wii U and that it wasn't going to be replaced anytime soon by NX. Instead, NX would compliment Wii U and 3DS. I hope this is a DS situation or PR crap just to keep consumers buying the product.

Overall, this is exciting news for me. It's a new era for Nintendo. PS4 and Xbone, good fortune to them. I just want. Nintendo to live and learn from Wii U.

Well I can still play my NES, so I guess we have different views on outdated hardware...

When I talk about hardware Im maily referring to shutting out 3rd party games. Titles like Alien: Isolation, Evolve and Grand Theft Auto V could have had compelling Wii U ports but Nintendo clearly didnt give a damn about 3rd partys or people who like 3rd party games aka most gamers.

So its Nintendos fault for not getting them? How hard could it be to port a 360 game to the WiiU?

It's just fact that MK games release 3 years one after the other, MK8 released in 2014 and MK7 in 2011, MK Wii in 2008 and so on...

I think this situation is a bit different. The reason they can release to frequently is because of the platforms they release on. This next MK is going to be the successor to both handheld and console Mario Kart. This is going to be a big turning point for the franchise, and that's not happening only three years after the console variant.

Again, it doesn't matter though. You can replace a new Mario Kart with Diddy Kong Racing Returns and your actual point remains the same.

Well then I dont know what to tell you. Not sure what you hated so much about the WiiU that the Wii and GC did right, but thats fine.

Ok, so here's the thing that I think some people are missing is all this.

Just because a product 'ceases production' at a certain point, it doesn't mean that all copies of that product immediately vanish from store shelves. I remember reading last year that one reason why Nintendo was so profitable in 2014 was because they didn't have to manufacture any Wii Us that year. Every Wii U sold was produced in 2013. This may not be 100% correct but I remember reading something along those lines.

Anyway, I'm pretty certain that even if they cease production of the Wii U by the end of this year, you will still see Wii Us on store shelves well into 2017, probably even into 2018.

Dont worry. Nintendo will make The Thousand Year Door available on the NX VC and he`ll be in a good mood again

I still have my gamecube copy and a working Wii so I wouldn't care if they did that. Only a new Paper Mario game that's actually good will cheer me up towards the franchise. Same with Mario Party.

I get hardcore nintendo fans would buy this, but i couldn't get the point of the tablet (etch a sketch controller) too bulky should been normal pad and the console should have been powered to match the Xbox one at least, they (Nintendo shot them selves but i hope they learn from this, and don't release another under powered console as i would buy a decent Nintendo machine.

You'll be in depression for a long time then, I'm afraid.
