Forums - Gaming Discussion - GameTrailers shuts down today

GT's been my favourite gaming site since I started going there in 2007, so this really sucks. To me, they've always had the very best reviews, and they've had some great shows. Though to be honest, I could see this coming eventually, as the site has not been what it used to be for a long time now. Doesn't make it hurt any less.

What!? What's going to happen to my Final Bosman? I they were afraid of being shut down at one point but that a long time ago. This is bizarrely sudden

Yeah to echo what Bman54 said, the site was great back in '06/'07 through around '11/'12, then for the past few years it really started going downhill. They no longer featured content from the likes of the AVGN, Screwattack and Mega64, their video player turned to shit, and let's be honest, if it's new trailers / previews of games that you're looking for, pretty much everything is on YouTube these days.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Never forget

Almost certainly. Ad rates for gaming sites are ~ half what they were in 2010 for major gaming websites. It's why so many sites have had to close or scale back operations.

I've previously seen stats that indicate ad-blocker usage amongst gamers on videogame news sites is higher than even ad-blocker on porn sites.

That's not too surprising. Obnoxious or annoying ads = ad blocker. I started using ad blocker because of this site.

That is odd, thought they were doing fine. Only went to like 3 of those sites in the past, Gamespot then IGN then Gameinformer. Only go to Gameinformer about once every 2 weeks now.

I used to go to that site a few times a week years ago now I barely go. I wish I knew sooner.

That's a shame, they were a good site. I wish everyone there the best of luck.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Good. The reviews were rubbish (probably due to short duration) and had double standards (I think it was GameTrailers that said a game without more innovation couldn't get a better score when reviewing Uncharted 2, and then the next Call of Duty game got a better score).

Holy crap! This is pretty shocking!
