Forums - Nintendo - Quality Of Life Device Not Fit To Be Sold As "A Nintendo Product" At The Moment, Says Kimishima

Soundwave said:

Just another I'd add ... maybe Kimishima might be more of a "no bullshit" type of boss?

Nintendo's gotten themselves into trouble by indulging sometimes too much into the creative fancies of their designers rather than just focusing on making the most marketable products or gotten side tracked by things like "well Mr. Miyamoto doesn't like CD loading times so I guess we're using cartridges".

There needs to be someone at NCL who just says enough with that type of nonsense. I know for sentimental reasons with Mr. Iwata's tragic passing that they probably wanted to see this product through, but at the same time if you don't think it's going to have relevance to the market ... maybe it shows Kimishima is more "ruthless" brand of boss .... which is good for Nintendo.

Wasn't he also pessimistic about the Wii U idea and didn't think Wii U would sell just because the Wii did? At this time I think they need more of a cold, analytical boss to lead the company. If Kimishima is responsible for putting QoL on ice, it may tell something about how he runs the show.

Agreed.

Nintendo needs a tough, no-nonsense leader at the moment, someone who can cut through the fluff and stop the often wasteful flights of fancy that guys like Miyamoto and Aonuma too often indulge in.

Most ppl don't care I'm sure.

You can only speak for one person "I'm sure".

I am not sure the sleep tracker is something that's gonna take off. Most smartphones can track your sleep very well, download the right App and you are set. I think it's better for Nintendo to branch out somewhere else, they can simply make smartphone Apps that promote healthy activities instead of dedicated hardware.

I wonder if Miitomo is even really Kimishima's "baby" all that much, he seemed to be anxious to point out that the second Nintendo app would not be a social app like Miitomo is but would utilize a well known character (gonna take a wild guess here and say it'll be Mario).

I think Nintendo may change a lot under Kimishima.

I'm interested in this, I even researched the sleep tracker market before diving into the disposable wearable Mi Band.

As I said yesterday when the QOL info started coming out, "I think maybe they are too late to make their mark in QOL. I wanna see what their non-wearable approach is, since the current wearable market is flooded."

First, they released WiiU Fit U a year too late. Instead of going with the DS pedometers, they should have gone with something like the Xiaomi Mi Band. (Bought mine last summer and stopped using the Fit Meter).

Their non-wearable solution could be similar to ResMed S+ ($150) or Sense ($130).
Or maybe with extra sensors like the
Withings Aura ($300) or Beddit Smart 2.0 ($150)

It's most likely that Kimishima hasn't influenced any decision yet. Miitomo was Iwata's baby, he announced it himself:

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has informed investors that the company is planning to release a Mii application for smartphones and tablets sometime next year. They were originally planning to release the app this year, but they had so many ideas that they thought it would be best to delay it until it’s polished and ready. Iwata says that the app isn’t about making money, but instead strengthens the connection between the company and consumers.

So Nintendo's mobile apps aren't "about making money, but instead strengthens the connection between the company and consumers" http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7749722
