Let's be honest here for a moment, real talk; I literally bought a 3ds and Wii U with a HOPE for a paper mario game. I would seriously buy an entire system just for that series alone, and I'd find it worth it.

SPM is fine, it's only SS that's complete garbage. The game actually is like TTYD, just a massively stripped down version of it. Even when pretending the prequels don't exist, all of it's flaws remain, such as the barebones battle system, having no reason to battle outside of bosses, having no story or characters, and so ons that make the game bad on it's own.

Yea after the great/funny stories from the first three games I was stunned they didn't even TRY to make an interesting/humerous story with this one.

My ranking of the Mario RPG series would be Thousand Year Door, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and all the rest of the PM / M&L games a distant fourth.

1. M&L Superstar Saga
2. Paper Mario
3. Super Mario Rpg
4. TTYD

5. Super Paper Mario (didn't finish)

The top four games are all very close and could change as I replay them over time. Superstar Saga is the only one I've played twice. I'm gonna start Partners in Time right now though.

You should! They are different (don't expect them to be like Paper Mario and you'll be fine), but they are very RPG traditional and still have crazy stories and what not.
