Forums - Nintendo - Why are Europeans not more supportive for the Wii U?

Partially that is historical. Nintendo themself hit the european market very late and with 'kids toys'. So they never where that big over here.
When the home consoles arrived classic home computers still where big and PC was growing.

The Genesis/Mega Drive was bigger over here than the SNES. The N64 was pretty weak over here. Only handhelds were where Nintendo was the big player in Europe. And with the decline in handhelds even that will be history soon.

Sony managed to appeal to the teen and adult gamers and at the same time had enough family games on PS1 and PS2, at least with third parties.

the reason ? Honestly: because i find the wii u very boring and many people too. The games-publisher are gone.
And the best jrpgs are coming for PS4 in the future: Persona 5, Dragon Quest 11, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 15, Star Ocean 5 and many more.

Here nobody cares about JRPGs outside FF, my dear. Look the sales.

Because the games are boring, the pad is way too big and internet apps are slow. I varely used it except for monster hunter 3, which i more or less knew from the wii. When mh4 was out on 3ds, i switched and got goid money for the wu.

Boring is the last thing you can say about Nintendo games. You can say they look kiddie, or that they lack the ambition of some others, but boring? lol

(This is mostly me testing the multiquote feature tbh, It works nice! :P)

Its because americans appreciate the art style and game style more than europeans do.
Even more than the Japanese do.

These cute bright colored mascot characters just resonate better with americans, than anywhere else in the world.
(when I think america, I think neon lights, disney themeparks, gigantic movie industy, everything frantic & colourfull, and a very simple form of humor).

(nintendo has alot of that in it, because its aimed at kids).

also history, sega was big in europe.. back when nintendo was hitting majorly everywhere else.

Then after that it was playstation. So nintendo never really had as much time to shine in the spotlight back in its glory days to build brand in the eu.

It is playstation land. If Nintendo wanted to gain marketshare, get a Fifa game and bundle it with NX. Ensure it is atleast on par with PS4/X1 versions. and try to get an exclusive deal, like how MS have the legends. I don't know what could be added on top of that Ultimate Team which really works well for EA in terms of $$$$.

COD, BF and get the next GTA game would also help NX carved that market. It could introduce more Splatoon gamers in Europe.

The Wii U is a good system why arent we buying it, arent european ussually gimped over a lot of stuff when it comes to videogames?

Probably because the PS4 and Xbox One and PCs are seen as better systems with more diverse libraries. ;)

But I've done my part: bought the Wii U (as well as any other Nintendo home + handheld system since N64 + GBC) and all the games that interest me.

Europe is not that Nintendo-friendly. Before the PS1, Europe gaming usually focused on PCs.

And also, Europe has never been very supporting to Nintendo. Even on Snes era, Sega was actually more popular in a lot of countries.

That's the result of Nintendo (and SEGA, too) not being that Europe-friendly in the first place in the '80s and '90s.  Why is PC stronger in Europe than in other regions? Perhaps because Europe was always an afterthought for the console industry.

  • NES launch Europe: 38 months after Japan, 9 months after US
  • Gameboy launch Europe: 17 months after Japan, 14 months after US
  • SNES launch Europe: 17 months after Japan, 8 months after US
  • SNES launch Germany: 21 months after Japan, 12 months after US
  • Nintendo 64: 9 months after Japan, 6 months after US
  • Nintendo 64 launched 17 months after the PS1 in Europe... a much larger gap than in the other regions.
  • Gameboy Advance: only 3 months after Japan, same month as in US... thumbs up!
  • GameCube: 8 months after Japan, 6 months after US

NoE is great but they can only do so much. Wii U is a disaster and Europe is Nintendo's weakest market so keeping the system from completely disappearing from stores is really all they can do.

In part its also Nintendos fault, they dont try that hard in europe.

Let me explain how someone chooses a console in mainland Europe, firstly you consider buying a good playstation bundle, then a mediocre playstation bundle, then a base black playstation or a base white playstation. After that you consider a Xbox One and realise you probably want a PS4. And sometimes you are vaguely aware such a thing as a Wii U exists. As for your points we do not care about devils third (and try to blame us). X is more Japanese orientated and we like Playstation way more. As for free online Nintendo didn't push it as a selling point so we don't care.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I actually bought a WiiU at the beginning of this year specifically because I was craving 3D platformers. I missed my time with the N64, spending countless hours playing mario64, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooi and playing Lylat Wars 64 over and over again.

I played Mario 3D world, I loved it and then I realised there were no other 3D platformers. I dislike the 2D mario's and the constant remastering of them. I came for what I fell in love with in my teens and was left wanting. In the end I ended up trading my WiiU in as even Star Fox seemed miles away and different to what I wanted it to be.

I know I can download some of the 3D Mario games from the Wii, but in the end I want to play my Mario games with a controller and as much as I was dying to play Mario Galaxy, I couldn't bring myself to play a Mario game with motion controls.

Im Swedish, and im a preatty hardcore nintendo fan, and im 18 and i bought the Wii U at launch, i had it pre-ordered. I did my fair share here xD but anyway hmm UK seems mostly go to playstation, although germany alot of soccer fans go to ps4 and there soccer games. Alot of germans love mario party and mario kart. Sweden is liek the weird one. they just like League of legends, Counter-striker. and those other boring games :P
