Forums - Sales - Hardware numbers Germany - Wii sells best in April

I can never make peace with a German. It isn't the whole holocaust thing. In recent decades, Germany has been one of the loudest voices criticizing their own past, and I appreciate that. The current generation of Germans share no blame for what their country did 70 years ago. No, what bothers me is that you guys have a truck company called MAN. The company is called "MAN." All capitols. Their logo? It's a lion. A lion is not a man. For making such a grievous error, all Germans can never be forgiven.

I apologize if your offended by my comment. I am of German decent myself (and rather happy of it). I'm not trying to liken germany, it's people, or government to nazi ideologies (as I don't believe history would show us that Nazis was a germany-only problem. I liken it to marxism of the past century). It's merely a restrictive ideolgy. Plus we have plenty of Nazi's in the US that I am sure are not Germans. What strikes me as odd about the government decision to ban all games of every form that harbor any of the more "extreme" forms of violence, nazi images, ect, is that it's kind of random and dumb. In the United States, we learn about our terrible past and it's pushed in our faces every single day (racism). Rather than ban images of it, and blacklist the word, we embrace what makes us wrong, in order to better ourselves. I guess it's a cultural difference between Germany and the United states. Louie, I apologize, but my comments aren't aimed toward you, or anyone of the great German population. It's just merely that I cannot find a better party that restricted things in life outside of that (or unless you know of Pol Pot's regime?) I'll go ahead and edit my post. On topic: The reason I used such strong words about Germany are this: They are, by and far, the most restrictive country in the Western world (and most of the eastern world) when it comes to video game violence and content. Because of this, an otherwise PC friendly market (which can translate into 360 succuess), has been severly diminished. I cannot IMAGINE what kind of sales the 360 would of had stateside if we didn't have our million sellers in Gears of War, Dead Rising, and Call of Duty 2 and 3. I doubt the 360 would of done probably 80% or less of the total sales, as all the games germany has banned are million sellers.

1) No, it isn´t believe me: We face it everyday and every night, when I was to school we had WWII from Class 8 to class 10 in History, social skills, german, english and religion, even so much our teachers nearly completely ignored the first worldwar and everything after 1945 which was scary... last year when world Championship of soccer was in Germany people were unsure if to raise german flags when our team was better than everyone expected.

2) Yeah I´m sorry too for such a harsh reaction.

3) That´s not completely true but for sure to a certain extend, our censorships are sometimes just funny (in a bad way). But they don´t refer to WWII but to some school massacres we had in big cities like Erfurt and politicians blamed videogames for these massacers. This is even worse because no one asked about the shooters and how they felt and why they did such things, they just said "videogames!" and went on...

still many games reach german regions (and we can improt them from our neighbour countries of course ) but it surely was sad for X360 because Gears of War wasn´t even released here (censorship just means you can´t buy that game when you are under 18 and you are not allowed to advertise it).

I agree, facist might be a better term for what I meant (imo, nazism and facism are very similar in ideologies). I didn't mean to say that you ignored your past, but it seems like that way in video games to some point, but I could be mistaken. Also, being in USA, we love germany. We love all of Europe. We do not, however like it when people are anti-American. At that point we tend to go nuclear (ie, the whole debacle w/ france and us renaming french fries to freedom fries for a time). We're very tolerant (almost too much so) with other cultures and such (Im reffering to being too tolerant with certain mid east and eastern cultures). But for Europe, they're cool, outside of the fact they do not like the 2 greatest sports in history: American Football and NASCAR racing.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The LTD numbers seem very low (I don't know what are the French or UK numbers so I can't tell). But what is sure is that the 360 is also going bad in France, I think most Xbox owners are waiting a price drop and Halo 3 (my friends are still playing Halo 2 on the Xbox Live). I feel the 360 is going to be third in EU this time... :/

@ mrstickball : "we don't like when people are anti-American", the same goes from anti-french americans, nobody likes being hated, and the "freedom fries" reaction/embargo was very unfair/intolerant to our choice not to help you war in Iraq. That's not if you were attacked in your own ccountry. People should respect other's choices. Moreover that was our president choice to use the veto, there were not even a referendum (even if 80% of French were against the war at that time). American Football and NASCAR racing? I don't like/don't care about the first one but I really like NASCAR (and I'm French, a sport that not broadcasted in France) as I like Formula One.

So the PS3 sold 6,500 more units in Germany for the month of April. At that pace they will pass the 360 in Sept 2009.

Well the christimas season is particularly strong here for sales ,I would saly 40% of the sales come from that period alone .In those periods the PS3 should sell way more than 6500K consoles more than the 360.

Really?  Why would the PS3 outsell the 360?  We are still in the launch window for the PS3.  Sales will continue to fall and soon the 360 will be outselling the PS3.

Ps3 has alot more Euro friendly games, and PS3 games are region free so even if its baned they can import it.

360s biggest best games are gonna be baned.

because ps3's numbers will increase and 360's ones will decrease. very simple.

PLAYSTATION®3

Bundesprüfstelle, the German media censorship body is critizised in Germany, and they have a track record with video games not just since Erfurt but actually since very early on, maybe the 80s (you can find more on Wikipedia I guess).

What has to be noted though is that in Western Countries most censorhip is self censorship. Media publishers refrain from publishing controversial material because they fear not just sanctions by the government but also the public opinion.

So was Gears of War actually forbidden in Germany? Nope. MS retracted it after the USK (an industry organisation, similar to the ESRB in the US) denied to rate it, which would have meant very limited sales. The government had no direct part in it.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

Actually, "french fries" were first made in Belgium, not France.  Just like "french toast" was first made by a guy named French in New York I believe.  So much for the idiocy of renaming these things because a few people were pissed off at France.  I think I can accurately say that most Americans thought these sorts of things were petty and stupid, even if they disagreed with France's position on the war.

In any case, mrstickball just has poor tastes in sports ;)  World football blows away American football any day!
