NPD numbers. Also, I said Halo 5's worldwide sales are lower than US sales of Halo 3, Reach, and 4. I didn't say they were low.

You forgot that
a) not all of them were released during the same month
September has 5 weeks, October 4 weeks and November 4 weeks.
b) none of them were released on the same day

Halo 3 came out on the 25th Sep. = 12 days
Halo Reach on the 14th Sep. = 19 days
Halo 4 on the 6th Nov. = 24 days
Halo 5 on the 27th Oct. = 5 days

So from what I gathered, Halo 3 did 3.3m in 12 days, Halo Reach 3.3m in 19 days, Halo 4 3.2m(?) in 24 days.

hardly fair to say that a game with 2x the US weekly sales, 4x the US weekly sales and 5x the US weekly sales did more than a game with 5 days of WW sales, especially when that series is so US heavy.

The problem is that Halo 5 is facing stiff competition from Black Ops 3 and Battlefront, both of which are multiplayer-focused FPS'es. Abdiel has commented that Halo 5 vanished when Black Ops 3 launched (which isn't long after Halo 5's launch) and Battlefront is coming out on the 17th.

Also, Halo 3 took more than 1.7 million preorders before it officially launched, so the game sold 1.7+ million Day 1. That's more than 1.4 - 1.5 million in 5 days. After Halo 4 launched, Microsoft's PR commented on how Halo 4 surpassed Halo 3. It's not unreasonable to assume that Halo 4 also sold a similar amount on Day 1.

If true, it again proves bungie>343. MS needs to get them back if possible because the franchise is a shadow of it's former self.

I think activision owns them

Correct, sir.

Ugh, I was sure I put Microsoft, going to ask mods to change it.

I believe digital is more than that. Well it's rumor anyway so it doesn't matter

From a vetted guy... that proved he knows someone with access to actual numbers.

If he couldnt prove that, or someone else on gaf had the "real" numbers and this guy lied or made them up, he would have been banned.

Basically you cant just go "oh its just a rumor" to this.

Basically still a rumor. Correct? I hope MS tells the numbers total with digital. Not worried either way.

They'd only do that if Halo was breaking records. If this rumour is true Halo 5 isn't coming anywhere close to that so there is no way MS will give any indication of actual sales, with or without digital.

NPD is like 5 days away now. Should show more clarity on those numbers. But with MS PR we could have a feeling that this Halo didn't match the reception from previous Halo.

If this would be the highest selling digital title in the Xbox store ever, does that include compared to what Minecraft sold on 360 as well?

Highest selling digital title for that week, on the X1 I believe.

I'm mainly thinking about this like:

"This resulted in a spike in digital sales of Halo 5: Guardians, leading to it becoming the best-selling digital game ever in the Xbox Store for an opening week.

If they are referring to the entire lifespan of the XBox store, Minecraft is the previous record holder with 1 million. But that would most likely put digital sales at 40% which sounds way to high. Maybe they mean only for Xbox one?

Ok, the fact still remains that IF they mean calendar month, it's only missing 1 day (Sunday) from any other regular week 1 software numbers. Maojority of games release Tuesday and week one is until Sunday. Sunday was Nov 1st so it would miss that day IF it they meant calendar month.

Why do you not include Tuesady launch day anyway?

Just the way you usually count things. Tuesday to Wednesay is 24 hours/1 day so thats one.

27th Nov Tuesday 12:00am - 11:59pm 1day
28th Nov Wednesday 12:00am - 11:59pm 2 days
29th Nov Thursday 12:00am - 11:59pm 3 days
30th NovFriday 12:00am - 11:59pm 4 days
31st Nov Saturday 12:00am - 11:59pm 5 days

5 days of data.

I can't believe I had break something so simple to grasp.

But you still missed my point. No matter how you look at it, it's only missing 1 day of data compared to the average game release.

You are not listening to what people tell you. Did it really need this amount of messages to get something so simple across. If you can't grasp simple things (I'm not the only one struggling with you) then I think you shouldn't be on here spreading misinformed fud

This it's my theory of Halo 5 actually beat Minecraft in first week digital sales (which I'm not sure if they meant): 1.5M (US), 0.15M (UK), 0.25M (ROW) and 1.1 (Digital). Sounds a bit extreme but its just a guess :).

1.1 digital is not even close.

This is my breakdown of digital.

220k from bundle

140k from LEs

240k from peopel just buying it

600k

Also 250k rest of the wolrd is to low. Past data shows that unless halo 5 did really bad it should have atleast sold 340k rest of the world. By

First I always said that Halo 3 is unmatched by any other Halo, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. Then I never said that Halo 4 didn't sell more than Halo 5 during the same time. I said that they are much closer in sales than what you tried to make it look like by doing that NPD to WW comparison with completely different time frames etc..

Yet again you make a simple numbers comparison but leave out all the details around it. 1.4m-1.5m doesn't include digital sales and apparently no bundles either, while the MS source does (while keeping in mind that digital sales for all previous Halos were 0 at launch).
Furthermore who says that MS didn't already include HW revenue in the Halo 4 press statement when comparing its revenue to Halo 3? Or how many special editions of Halo 4 were sold compared to Halo 3 and 5 since that changes revenue a lot but not unit sales. There's no way to know.

What I'm saying is, comparing pre-orders of game x to physical sales of game y to revenue of game z is not a good way to try to make a point.

Halo 5 is selling less than the previous few, sure but that's kinda normal for the first entry in a new generation. Doesn't mean it didn't do well, doesn't mean that Halo 6 can't do more, doesn't mean that Halo 5 can't go on and have legs since the console has easily 5+ years left.

This is what I've been saying. I think the rises come from bigger games and the trust after ppl buy digitally the 1st time. Of course that's why it rises. Then the developers or whoever are offering good digital pre-order incentives as well.

Star wars battlefront beta had 9 million players and last i checked you couldnt get that beta unless you got it digitally.

You didn't have to preorder to play the Battlefront beta.
