The overall discussion was about home consoles. Home console and handheld generations are NOT monolithic. However, you tried to add in handhelds because the results do not agree with your preconceptions. Since you don't seem to care about the actual topic of the conversation, you are being completely disingenuous.

Stay on topic or else, no one will take you seriously.

The topic was never about home consoles so stay out of it if you don't know what you're talking about. This is my last response to you.

Reading back through this thread, you seem to have come here only to rain on the Sony parade. It's fine if you don't like Sony, or even hate them, but this thread is about Sony's turning their fortunes around and the success of the PS4, not about handheld consoles.

You also seem to have a lack of understanding for the use of aligned launch comparisons and prefer to use the existing totals. The reason most forum users use aligned launch is because as you've pointed out, not every machine in each generation launches at the same time. Aligned launch more accurately shows number comparisons of how well the consoles are doing. In this sense, the 3DS has the best total numbers this generation, but it also launched a year and a half ahead of the PS4. The PS4 has consistently outsold the 3DS since it's launch, and has it beat in aligned launch. On the flip side, the Vita puts up a good fight against the Wii U every week, making their numbers fairly even. Combine these, and you're looking at better weekly sales and aligned launch sales for Sony consoles.

tl;dr, Stop trying to start fights, learn the etiquette of these forums, and get your facts straight before jumping headlong into an argument about facts.

2013E3 tvtvtv says otherwise.

TV was just a early way to differentiate it from the PS4 at that E3.  Are there many real ads/commercials for the Xbox One that focus more on TV than on games?

Games are what sell this machine. Games are what distinguish and define it compared to other devices.

I don't even know if the Xbox One is or isn't a fully functioning standalone cable box replacement, but I do know that Xbox One plays games because I see tons of ads showing me those games.

Your narrative was about being a dedicated gaming machine... It isn't, just that... it play games, but for several people, and for MS at that E3 that didn't even seem their main focus.

Further complicating the matter you have Apple putting out ads that primarily advertise their iPhone as a gaming platform.

And I'm sure if we put xperia numbers together with PSVita and PS4 it will be much bigger than 3DS+WiiU aligned or not.

Wow. Even outpacing the PS2 at this point. Sony really did a great job of seizing bad misfortunes and making it their own. Here's hoping this momentum continues come 2016.

At the very least we should be able to include all of the devices that feature Playstation Now. Fair is fair, right?

Tachikoma actually touched on this subject some time ago. I don't remember the thread where she talked about this, but basically, home console and handheld generations are not synchronized. You already pointed out with Playstation. I'll provide examples for Nintendo.

The N64 came out on 1996, but the Gameboy Color came out on 1998.
While the Gameboy Advance and Gamecube were released in 2001, the DS came out on 2004 while the Wii came out on 2006.
Nintendo's current handheld and console, were released in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

They have been synchronized since GBA/GC. This is just another excuse at trying to separate handhelds and home consoles.

I already pointed that out with this phrase: "While the Gameboy Advance and Gamecube were released in 2001, the DS came out on 2004 while the Wii came out on 2006."

Please read with more caution.

Not once were handhelds brought into the conversation until you started it. I don't know what what were your exact intentions for moving the goalposts, but it is quite obvious that you are triggered by the success of a piece of plastic. Hopefully, when you return from your ban, you have learned to stop being so belligerent.

I wasn't even talking about the Xbox One originally, I just responded to someone who brought it up.

When I said "gaming dedicated device" I meant that the device's main purpose and its main selling feature should be games.

I later responded:

"Xbox One is a gaming focused device though, that is its main purpose and its main selling feature."

Still, Xbox One is designed to be a games machine first and foremost and that's what it does best (even with its other features.)

And games are why the vast majority of people buy the machine.

A single E3 is not going to change that fact because E3 in not how MS sells the Xbox One to the general public.
