Forums - Microsoft - Halo 5 will have a 9GBs day1 update

The standard Bluray is too small for the game.
I mean they could put the other 9GB on a second Bluray but that would be a bit of a waste for the disc and increase the costs.

It's only the multiplayer part as well (and I guess only a fraction of that) so that makes sense.

The digital version should have the patch be apart of it though.

Better reason to go digital.. You traditional folk will just have to suffer from your poor choice of purchasing method. 😝

It's not a poor choice in the long run. This only matters during launch day. You aren't being blocked by a day anymore. After that, it doesn't matter when you buy. Also, if I need to reinstall. Most of the game is installed from the disc. I don't have to waste 45GB download. And just the patch size.

I still install GTA V from the discs. It still beats out my connection speed that I have. And I'm not maxing out the line for 3 hours. Killing everyone elses stuff, in the home. And I still get the benifet from not needing the disc.

How common is data caps? I know it's commonplace with phone subscriptions (which is weird in itself) but for regular, at-home-use? I thought that would be a thing of the past.

A lot of countries have bad caps. Austrialia is one.

Yeah, I've never seen them in Sweden. Not sure if it ever existed, but if it did I'm guessing it might have been with some lesser known internet providers.
But when I was in Australia I had a cap on my internet connection. =/ Plus the internet in Australia is just bad in general. =(
Hope the fiber optics plan changes that soon.

God yes. A friend of mine can't even skype chat if he sends a photo over his wifi, at the same time. The call will drop. So he has to use his 4G.

Or better yet, instead of blaming the consumer, we could all... you know.. blame the developers for shipping an incomplete game before it was finished.

Halo 5 doesn't have a day one update because it was incomplete, the full game won't fit on a single blu-ray disc.

If that's the truth, you make two discs.

This gen is so requiring decent internet and online access that it wouldn't be a big change if both Sony and MS made both consoles online only. And the trend will only continue.

There's a bit of a stretch between a sizable day 1 update and consoles being online only.

Of course this is exaggerating but what would change if the consoles would be online only, seriously? Sure, there are cases when internet doesn't work or game services are offline but in general? Most people probably configure the network settings once and never take their consoles offline intentionally when not moving or something like that.

Shit internet and unreliable PSN/Xbox live networks are the weakest reasons why it should never happen to be honest. Here's the real reasons why online only consoles should never happen.

The only reason for a console to be "online only" would be because of more restrictive DRM and game streaming. Well, alot would change with that in mind. I wouldn't be able to buy or trade used games nor I would be able to collect any games to play later. What happens when the console is no longer supported by servers? Can't play games. What happens if you're banned from your account? Can't play games or use your console. Would you lose access to all your games? Yep. Isn't that the opposite of any sort of progression of video game consoles? Damn skimpy and that's why it's not the future.

I'll tell ya what online only consoles truly are. They are a shit sandwich but some try to convince others it's really angus beef instead. I'm sure that MS, Sony and Nintendo understand how gamers would respond to it, perfectly. MS got a taste of it already. Going from being able to play used or new physical games or digital games whenever you please, online or offline to digital only, always online, games stored on a cloud consoles would be a slap to the face with nothing positive to come from it.

I didn't want to talk about reasons but saying the consoles are just worth a lot less without internet and most people have them always connected anyways. Of course there are also implications by doing it but that doesn't change the fact that many wouldn't even notice it.

And what is a PS4 worth in 20 years? When you buy it used with games like DC or TW3 and the online servers are gone, season passes have no value anymore and patches can't be applied?

Consoles already changed a lot and already games rely on it, almost too much, in my opinion. But that is just the way it is and the way it will go further, with one convergating point being ps now.

At that point. People will have the console hacked and the patches downloadable/backed up. It's a lot easier to deal with only the patches than the whole game. It's still stupid that we can back save files, but most patches can't be backed up in the first place.
