So, whenever my friends/family want to watch a scary movie I'm never scared. Everyone else is tense or they get scared by some stupid monster that just "appears". I just don't find them scary at all. Is there something wrong with me? Name me some scary movies that might scare me but be warned, I probably won't be scared.

Don't know if it was said before, but try watching Alien or Aliens if you haven't already.  The original Alien is the only truly scary monster movie I can think of.  It's slow but that's kind of the idea as it builds.  aliens isn't as scary per say, but the monster designs in some of the scenes is pretty chilling to look at.

If Alien or Alien Edit: AlienS (damn plurality) doesn't put a chill in you, then monster movies will never scare you...or imo horror movies in general.

Haven't watched those before, I'll give them a try. I'm pretty sure they won't scare me but here's to hoping!  Oh, wait...you say the monster designs are chilling? Well, that's what my friend tries to tell me but I still don't get "chilled".  Something that has psycologically freaked me out was this image:

Things like this always freak me out. There was also this documentary or whatever about these guys who went deep into the ocean and found like a mermaid or something and it actuatlly hit their submarine and let out a chilling scream. You could see the fin like projections and everything. That kind of stuff, that's actually on Earth, or might be on Earth is what scares me.

That's pretty damn freaky, but I dare say there is one moment that's freakier than this when one of the Aliens comes close up and...well you'll see for yourself :).

Let me know your impressions afterwards.  I'm genuinely curious.  Even if you don't find either movie scary or unsettling in any way they're both suspenseful and awesome as hell.

Yeah the only openly scary movies that make me feel slightly uncomfortable would be Signs or Blair Witch Project. Anything else I watch for fun and with that I mean that I either smile or even laugh during the "scary" scenes.

What gets me though are the mystery kind of movies or TV series. I guess they aren't even supposed to be scary but these are the only ones that would get me goose bumps. For example I'm more scared in every episode of Ancient Aliens than in any of the horror movies. Even though I don't really believe what it's about, but even then, aliens that have superior technology so you can't notice them if they don't want to be seen or them disguising as humans kinda makes sense and thus isn't as far-fetched as vampires, ghosts, crazy savages and so on.

The only things in horror movies that get me is the jump scares. It's not because it's scary but because my mind hasnt had enough time to adjust to the quick shot. However that also doesn't always work either. What really tends to scare me is stuff that makes me to really think (idk how to explain it XD)

I think I know what you're saying. What gets to you are the "traumatizing" things. Things that are disturbing because there may be a bit of truth to them. It's kinda like curiosity meets disturbing. That's what gets me.

There are plenty of us like that out there. Most "scary movies" in this era are not scary at all its all just special effects and make up. Real horror movies are the old ones. I've watched mostly every newish horror movie alone at night with lights off and not even a single bit of me gets scared.

I have that same feeling with scary games. They're not scary to me. It sucks, I want to experience fear too

If you want a very scary movie, watch Spider-Man 3.

Did you play PT?

Yes, though I've yet to beat it because a) Can't download it anymore on my PS4 (so I have to use a friend's PS4), and b) that damned cryptic final puzzle, which never works no matter what we do.

It got me tense on some moments, though. But all sense of fear is lost when Lisa does that over-extended killing sequence. It's like "Ah! meh, she grabbed me".

The generations of scary movies have passed. Today people are so desensitized that the most that can scare us is a real murderer or a jump scare.

If u don't get scared I would tell u to play the PT demo. I know it's not a movie, but it's in the entertainment medium. I would say PT is the scariest form of media I've ever experienced. Unfortunately, it's no longer available if u haven't already downloaded it on ur ps4.

I also found dead space 1 and 2 both intensely scary and fantastic.

I think games do terror better bc the fear is much more real since u are actually the main character.

As for a movie, I thought The Conjuring was both scary and very well done.

Lastly, I think u should also watch or play scary things by yourself. It's way easier to not be scared when you're with other ppl. But watch or play alone in your house at night with the lights off, and I'd be surprised if you didn't feal fear or at least a little uncomfortable or uneasy. Even seeing a movie in theaters for me has proven much less scary than with just one or 2 ppl at home.

Use some acid beforehand & you'll be on your way.
