Forums - Nintendo - What was the point of the "New" 3DS?

Taking the money from kids.

Around the Network

Forget about the exclusives.

If you like playing with 3d on , the New 3ds has improved the quality of such thing A LOT over the original model.

I remember the first time I played with a 3ds. The effect of the 3d was awful, if you move 1cm your point of view the screen goes all blurry.

The New model is perfect in that way.

The same as PSP1000 to PSP2000 (Runs so much better).

At least it wasn't a downgrade like the Vita version 1 model (OLED) vs Vita version 2 model (LCD).

Still, if you consider the price of both the console and games later on, Vita ends up being much, much cheaper! And it's despite having a much higher level of built quality, next gen specs (in comparison) and games costing more to develop. I am willing to pay for quality, but I won't pay extra for lower quality. I know there are some great games there, but I can't justify the price of the 3DS experience. As I've said - I'll get one when they crack it like they did with the DS. I still ended up buying a few DS games I enjoyed the most and will do that with 3DS as well, but no way I'm getting into this system without that.

Are the games so much better on the Vita that you wouldn't wait for it to be hacked before buying it?

And on a portable, are Vita graphics so much more important than 3DS graphics? You're on the go, typically graphics are secondary, and 3DS allows good enough visuals for games like Bravely Default and Fire Emblem. It all depends on how much effort the devs wants to put in.

I'm asking but I realize that everyone has their preferences.

Yes. When I compare Vita and 3DS, it's a difference of a whole generation in quality. 3DS is more like PSP than Vita to me. It looks cheap, has underwhelming visuals, yet costs more than a Vita! That is something I don't accept as a customer and I refuse to support such practice. It's blatantly obvious, that development of 3DS games is cheaper than developing Vita games, so I can't justify the higher price. 3DS experience has to be cheaper than Vita for me to buy it.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

The 'New 3DS' is the DSi, except surprisingly less exclusive games, which is sort of weird but whatever, the 3DS is still full with good stuff and some of the 'New' exclusive features in other games more are good.

That's always been the case in portable gaming.  durning the Gameboy days, consoles like the Lynx, TurboXpress, etc were coming out sometimes with the ability to play full console games--not ports-- the ACTUAL games.  The cheap ass GB was killing em all. I think Nintendo just realized what mobile gaming discovered: people will settle for less when it comes to portable gaming.

The New 3DS was made, because:
1. They needed a significantly different model to counteract the slowing sales of the 3DS.
2. They needed to update the hardware because some games (Pokémon is the most noticeable example) ran like crap on the 3DS, especially if you turned on the 3D.
3. They needed a right analog stick for Super Smash Bros and Monster Hunter.

Overall, I liked most of the updates in the New 3DS. I found that additional shoulder buttons worked much better than I was expecting. I absolutely despise the c-nub however.

Cheapest 3DS I see on Best Buy is 120$. It's the 2DS model. The cheapest Vita is 200 on best buy.

I looked on best buy.ca because I'm from Canada.

But I'm not talking about the 2DS, am I? That one is such a cheap piece of crap I don't even consider it.

Well I don't settle. If you give me less, you have to charge me less or forget about my money.
