Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Star fox Zero delayed till Q1 2016

Maybe because we're still not even at the end of September and the holiday season has yet to start?
At this point in time 2 years ago, there was still no TV commercial for Super Mario 3D World.
And the Mario Maker commercials didn't come until the end of August.
Everyone who has been following Nintendo since the beginning of the Wii U's life cycle have known about the game. It's been one of the main ones they've shown in all of the game shows they go to. (PAX, E3, etc.)
How about waiting for when the game is about to come out and is weeks away.

Edit: And Splatoon was supposedly going to bomb hard, and not even reach half a million liftime, but then one outstanding marketing campaign later... And the rest is history.

for advertisements, it is true better to have it around november or even mid october if they wanted to push a title for a late november game.  we knew now that the main game would be XCX, we can know what the new president really wanted for the Wii U, market it or really don't bother about it.  they've mentioned that they need to announce a new president before the upcoming holidays and i believe the press mentioned 50% of the sales came from holidays.  mario tennis, xcx, and i believe bundles with SMM, Splatoon, MK would be there as well. they need a price cut.  market it properly and i'm sure they could get sales out of it. bundle xcx as their main focus, don't know if nintendo would do that but if they want xcx to be part of the big IPs, hype it.

sony is great in marketing, nintendo should atleast try to increase their budget for marketing.

Honestly, I fail to see why character faces are that important.

And it doesn't need to be bundled with any of those games.
If it's gonna remove it's "niche" nametag and stand alone as a legit AAA franchise for Nintendo.
It needs to do just that, do it alone.
And to do that, they need to market the hell out of it. Same way they've been doing with all their big time Wii U titles since Mario Kart 8.
I remember back when almost nobody outside of Nintendo Fan forms knew about Splatoon and those people said Splatoon was gonna bomb and barely reach Wonderful 101 numbers.
One fantastic marketing campaign later... Look where it is now. And it didn't need Mario or co. to do it, it did it by itself
Xenoblade has the advantage of having a preestablished fanbase. Now it needs huge marketing to extend that fanbase exponetially.
A Xenoblade stand alone bundle + $50 price cut world certainly help things as well

I haven't seen any marketing actions for Fatal Frame V and Zenobureido Cross. FFV got nothing and XenoX got.. ugh.. one short explanation trailer? Both games will flop hard in terms of sales due Nintendo's policy.

What?  First off, it's mid September, the game is launching in December.  Fallout isn't marketing.  Not even CoD and Assassin's Creed have started their main campaigns yet and they are the embodiment of exhorbitent marketing spending.  So no TV commercials now is just a duh for XCX.  But outside of ads, they have done a lot of promoting.  It has had trailers in three E3s, the majority of Directs since its announcement (including extensive spotlighting of the title), hours of gameplay shown on the Treehouse, gameplay previews at PAX, a PAX panel with a limited edition announcement, monthly explanation trailers leading up to launch, DLC for free.  So far, they've done everything right. We'll have to wait and see on the ad campaign side but all indicators are positive thus far.

>> it's mid September, the game is launching in December

Right. It's a catastrophic small amount of time for promo campaign.

>>  Fallout isn't marketing.

lol. Now we compare Blade series to Fallout series?

>>  It has had trailers in three E3s

Yeah, Nintendo gave a "one minute" attention to XenoX on last E3. And completely forgot about Fatal Frame.

>> the majority of Directs since its announcement (including extensive spotlighting of the title)

Japanese directs. Officially there was no western XenoX directs. Neither Fatal Frame directs.

 >> hours of gameplay shown on the Treehouse

Hours of japanese build gameplay with stupidest Skells/Dolls mess ever.

 >> DLC for free

That was mentioned in some magazine in the end of the article. Great marketing.

1) No, it is not.  Most November games, even the biggest, have not started the main portion of their promo.  Some have put out some early ads, a lot have not.

2) No, I am simply saying a massive budget game from a wealthy company launching in the competitive November market has not started marketing.  That's all.

3) one,my point stands.  Second, I will not deny the trailer was brief; I thought it should have been longer.  But it got hours of coverage at E3, not one minute.

4). I meant it had appeared in the majority of directs, not that it had directs.  And it has appeared in the majority and has several trailers to show for it and two stand alone video presentations.

5).  Who gives two flying craps over the language?  And enough with the Skells whining, it's you blowing a stupid personal quibble into a "big deal" when it isn't.

4) I was saying it was a wise move first of all.  Second, alone it's insignificant but it is a positive along with everything else mentioned.

Completely unacceptable. First was Zelda now Starfox.

Nintendo either
-A) once again under estimated the time on HD development
-B) need a game to sell in Q1 2016 as they have nothing planned, or
-C) wanting to release it alongside NX instead

Either way I am incredibly disgusted.

Ding Ding Ding! I think we have a winner!

Ain't Pokken Tournament and Pikmin 4 releasing in that Timeframe?

Also, I just think it's because Nintendo is one of the very few videogame companies that take quality control seriously. I can't remember any Nintendo game being a bugfest. And delaying one of their biggest holiday titles to 2016 just shows they actually have the balls to push back a game to make sure it will be great at release. I wish EA/Activision/Ubisoft/any other publisher, really had these balls too instead of christmas-rushing bugfests every single year.

Anyway, the 2016 lineup is shaping up pretty good that way too. Starfox, Pikmin 4, Pokken Tournament, Zelda Wii U, SMTxFE (in the west), those are pretty big titles already. Along with yet unannounced games, this could actually become a great year for the Wii U.

Only Xenoblade Chronicles X as holiday game?

Well theres Fatal Frame V, I guess...

From now til the end of the year, NA has Yoshi, XCX, Amiibo Festival, Fatal Frame V, Devil's Third, and Mario Tennis.  Plus a few third parties if you at all care (I don't) and FAST Racing Neo as a note worthy indie.  In Japan there is no DT, FFV, Yoshi, or XCX, so that's unfortunate.  But they do have Genei Ibun Roku #FE.

Is there any information at all that says Pikmin 4 is coming to the WiiU or are you just guessing since Miyamoto said that its almost done?

An educated guess, to be honest. I mean, it's almost done, so Q1 2016 seems like the obvious release window. And Wii U since the series had not gone mobile yet.

Educated guess based on what? We thought XCX was almost done back in 2012...

Wait, what? Who ever said in 2012 XCX was almost done? It was very clear to me back then that it wouldn't release before 2014.

A) The past all HD development problems in Wii U first year.

B) Game in Q1 2016 will nothing change, Star Fox would had much better impact on Wii U sales and sales of game itself in holiday season than in Q1.

C) So you think we are getting NX in Q1!?

D) Most obvious, they need more time to polish game.

this might be the best possible answer. we have a thread about starfox graphics and debated it. for me, i'm not impressed especially Nintendo came into HD and the graphics especially the background graphics and models looks early PS3 designs.  i don't know how big of the jump in terms of graphics they can do but i hope the game would be better.

It want be big jump in terms of graphics because game still runs on two screens in 2x 60fps, but certainly can look little better and more polished game.
