Why do I need to explain it to you? It won't change your mind on the subject.

You certainly won't change my mind with that attitude. People who are optimistic won't change my mind, either, yet they're happy to explain why they feel that way. Whereas everyone who shares your feelings is reluctant to give the littlest bit of insight to their thought process. And the occasional attempt is a trainwreck.

I'm open-minded. I don't hate the prequels. I was 8 when Episode 1 came out, I have as much nostalgia for the prequels as anybody. But I'm not 8 anymore and I can think critically about things I like; it's actually a lot of fun.

It seems like a lot of the tension over Episode 7 comes from this generational gap. Fans who grew up with the originals throw a lot of shade on the prequels sometimes. It makes fans who grew up with (and possibly prefer) the prequels feel alienated. The new movie is clearly aiming for a return to the style of the originals and catering to those older fans, making younger fans feel forgotten or left out. But that's just my take on the situation.

IMO older fans are too quick to throw the baby out with the bathwater with regards to the prequels. All anybody has to do is watch the Clone Wars film and they'll start to realize there are things they actually do like in Episodes 1 and 2. Certain things introduced in the prequels have become so commonplace we often forget that concepts like the Sith didn't even exist until Episode 1. People seem to like the Sith. I think they're a bit overused, but I don't object to the idea. But seriously look at all the people continuing to call Kylo Ren a Sith for no reason. It's because people like the Sith, even older fans who don't care much for the prequels.

Can't we all just get along? We all like Star Wars. Maybe we like it for different reasons but I bet we can all find some common ground if we try to.

I've explained why I dislike the new movie with several people, all who ust said I was a hater and proceeded to ignore me. That's why I don't want to explain it anymore.

The prequel trilogy was terrible due to all the plot holes and contradictions that were made.
In the original trilogy when Luke Skywalker is in a memorable conversation with Princess Leia, the exchange goes as follows:

Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother, your real mother?

Leia: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.

Luke: What do you remember?

Leia: Just images really, feelings.

Luke: Tell me.

Leia: She was, very beautiful, kind, but sad. Why are you asking me this?

Yet in the prequel trilogy their mother dies giving birth to them. It would be impossible for either child to have any memories of her. This is not the only flaw that was created by the prequel trilogy, the list goes on and on.

If episode VII ignores the prequel trilogy and stays true to the original trilogy I will have no problems whatsoever. Even if it causes contradictions with the prequel trilogy, as long as it stays to the original it does not matter. The prequel trilogy should be buried.

I am glad that episode VII will have more practical effects. The prequel trilogy had too much forced CGI. Also the lack of space battles in the prequel trilogy really grinded my gears. Especially when Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Luke in the original trilogy that Luke's dad was the best pilot in the galaxy, yet the prequel trilogy barely elaborated on this. It was such a missed opportunity, especially seeing as the space battles would have been one of the few instances that would have warranted the use of CGI, however this was barely tapped into.

I am optimistic towards the new movie. J.J Abrams seems to know what he is doing.

would it be impossible though? they did see her when they were born. plus the force is strong in their family, who's to say the images weren't burnt into memories?

Lack of space battles? where have I herd that before? starfox core fans who hated adventures. Honestly the prequels were all about the rise of the empire from a somewhat peacful utopia galactic republic, it wasn't going to be all our space battles. It was about how it all crumbled piece by piece.

The advancement in CGI technology is precicly why they didn't do jsut space battles. Space Battles CGI was about as good as you could do with CGI in the 70s. Now we can create whole worlds with CGI.

I'd be really bummed. The prequels were meh but still ok, and I'm a big Star Wars fan so I've been waiting for this new movie for a long time.

Though I'm optimistic.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I'd be done with Star Wars if it's not better than the prequels. Worse than the prequels would just be a joke. I'd enjoy the OT now and again, but that's it.

I'd feel sorry for luke and leia if they could remember their mother, since the only memory they could possibly have is of her dying because she had lost the will to live immediately after giving birth to them.

Luke and Leia both have strong connections to the Force. With the Force always having been a plot convenience that can fill holes, since V, it's a safe assumption that anyone can make that Leia has false memories because of the Force being strong within her. Not to mention, you quoted a very vague statement not unlike something people experience in real life, be it an out of body experience or, y'know, just a damn dream.

Yes, there are flaws with the prequel trilogy, but the entire series has honestly never been good from any sort of literary perspective. Original Trilogy fanatics love to go and point out how bad the Prequels are using flimsy evidence, and then as soon as a problem is thrown into the OT, they go and quote the EU to justify it as if a prequel section of the EU doesn't exist and explain, say, Obi Wan's experiences with Anakin as a pilot during the twelve years or so we don't see in between I and II or the couple years between II and III. Not saying you personally, mind you, I'm just stating something about the fans in general.

The Star Wars series, coming from somebody who loves it, is a bad series. There's a lot wrong with every single facet of every single episode. The only true difference between the original and prequel trilogies is that the Prequels are quite a bit angstier at times, but even then Luke has his moments. Also, Jar Jar. That was entirely unneeded, but at least Lucas lampshaded how bad he was by making him directly responsible for the Empire rising.

TL;DR Thirty years of idolizing one half of something only to get a second half that's not perfect is always going to lead to this sort of hatred we always see for the Prequels. It's no different than old timers saying "my music in my day was better than this wub wub shit!"

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Frankly, my expectations couldn't be any lower. So, as far as I see it, if it sucks, it's expected. I'll be surprised if it's actually decent.
