Even Nintendo did it with Zelda U. Day and night cycles, "go anywhere you see," weather systems. And all I'm thinking is...haven't these been a pretty standard thing since Oblivion at least? xD Aside from that, game looks gorgeous and very interesting. |
i think people are overhyping these massive world games sometimes, i personally enjoy them quite alot, but open world games where you can go anywhere you want are not a strang thing to see anymore. It will be just another normal thing like 2D sidescrollers are now, but thankfully tropical freeze breathed some fresh air into the 2D platformers

Well I don't feel like there's overhyping going on here really. Just that developers have this funny concept that their particular fanbase may not have played, seen, or read about open world games before. Which I could totally understand back in 2005. But it's 2015, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and NV, and Skyrim have sold over 40 million combined and GTA is at an all time high. There's no reason to believe that any core gamer hasn't had some contact with open worlds anymore. So their need to elucidate on the basics of "what is open world" comes off as a bit silly is all.

Could you elaborate on the AC3 comparison? Because I'm totally lost :p

The hype for the game comes because it has all of those things together, along with a full ecosystem of wildlife, machinelife, crafting using materials gained from the wildlife and the environment.
It's not just that this is a a huge open world game, but it's that, with real time, dynamic weather and real time lighting.
Weather will actually effect the environment that will have a knock on effect on the wildlife/machinelife, which will affect their behavior and thus that effects the gameplay.
Scale, systems in place for a reason and that will provide for massive gameplay potential, that's why I'm personally hyped and why I think so many others are, outside of the concept of a way far off future setting, with so much mystery surrounding the machines and the reasons for why the world is the way it is.
Seriously what western RPG has all of this together, with that kind of setting?
The biggest part comes down to how the gameplay seems to work and the fact you have to deal with huge robotic machines that look like animals, which many call robot Dinosaurs.
