Okay, makes sense.

This is really impressive, especially for a spin-off. I wonder how much Dragon Quest XI will sell on the PS4 now seeing how successful this game was. Even though Dragon Quest XI isn't going on PS3, I'm sure it can surpass this with the PS4 sales alone.
Dang. May even push get close to 2 million depending how it does in the West.
it prob wont make 1m in america since its only on one platform here whereas japan/asia its on two platforms
but either way, im definitely buying it lol

That wouldn't be the reason.
The reason it's PS3 and PS4 in Japan is because PS3 still selling software.
In North America the PS3 is dead and so not worth releasing it there, that's why it's PS4 only because sales won;t be different if they release on PS3.
The reason it won't hit 1m in NA is because the game is a niche. I'll be surprised if it sells 200k there.

They're remakes. |
Doesn't matter:

And I could list more. Remakes or not, they still sell well. And I mean, the DQV DS game was a remake of a game that had just been remade for the PS2 some years before, and that still sold over a million in Japan.

It absolutely does matter.
The games you listed are remakes of the mainline games. Those are likely to sell over a million in Japan 99% of the time (the only one that didn't was DQIII on the GB, but that got a remake on the SNES prior). The Monster series is a spinoff, and no one should expect remakes of spinoffs to sell that well. The fact that Terry's Wonderland 3D even came close to 1m is quite good, really, especially since it was limited to one platform.
Edit: And I'm not trying to undermine DQH's sales, because they're extremely good. I just don't see why DQ Monster remake sales have to be brought up to prove that.
Nice, but it's expected, even though it's a spin off
