I'll wait a year. I have a lot software, so I won't upgrade until I know it's all been updated to work on Windows 10.
I upgraded from 7 to 10, and Start Menu and Cortana aren't working. Promising start...
In fact, not even the taskbar is working. I'll give it to them, everything was as it was before I installed it.
It's weird because just when I installed it, I could access the Cortana setup and I clicked "I agree" on its terms, and everything went awry. I can access many applications without problems (Edge, Firefox, Skype, Windows Explorer) but not the Start menu and the Search bar. Curious thing is, when I open Task Manager, it shows no application draining memory. But that too screws up and turns unresponsive. It's like apps work but the system isn't. It's still weird after two restarts.

thanks dude. I'm doing this right now.
I'm fine with Win 7 even more than I was with Win 2000. It happened just twice, every other MS product has always disappointed me, sometimes more, sometimes less, but just two satisfied me enough. So I won't take any risk, surely my next laptop will have Win 10 and, installed and fine-tuned by the laptop producer, will surely be able to satisfy me more than on a desktop assembled by me, just like XP did, but on the desktop I'll keep Win 7 as long as possible.
I'm going to get a new hard drive so I can do a clean install AND make sure all my old data is backed up. So as soon as I get around do doing that, upgrade I will be!
I just upgraded my video drivers - it said for DirectX 12, but I think that was Nvidia being overly optimistic as it's an older card.
I'm running Windows 10. No problems! Nice clean, and it's pretty.
