Well that seems like a pointless deal to make in retrospective... |
Doesn't make the deal any better because it was made in 1997. But yes, this wasn't really money well spent.

I don't think I ever 'guessed'. I don't really care, don't like Tomb Raider. I'm trying to point out you seem a little happy people got it wrong. |
Not happy, like you I'm just pointing something out
I guess we'll see how this unfolds sales wise. I doubt that many would buy a xbox one for this game with this news coming to light. More likely current xbox one owners will be the ones buying it.

Like the Order 1886 sales prediction, they just disappeared lol.

You do realize that Sony did the same thing with Street Fighter V, but not timed, right? *sigh* |
Not the same thing:
- RotTR was a game that already was in production for both consoles and it was going to be released anyway before Microsoft's intervention
- Street Fighter V would not have been made any time soon without Sony's money for any of the consoles because Capcom lacked the funds for the investment
I've made it as clear and concise as possible so you'll be able to interpret the difference between both situations.
| walsufnir said: Wow, this went better than I expected. So much for the "it will only be 6 months anyway"-talk ;) A full year is quite massive. Not comparable to what Sony did once to the franchise but still a lot. We just have to live with companies buying (or the new term "supporting") games so that the competition doesn't get it. It happened many times before and will happen in the future. The only thing that determines whether these deals are good or not is if your favorite company does it or your most hated one. |
neither side got it right. Some were saying it will be pc/xb1 exclusive and others were saying it will be a 6 month timed exclusive based of a rumor. For the rest, I agree. Even if I don't like the idea based on principles, I understand why it's made. things have changed.

And who is to say it wouldn't have taken longer if MS did not step in and publish the PC and XBO release of TR? both games were going to get made. But Sony is doing it with MANY games. Its perfectly okay if they do it, but when MS does it everyone whines and complains. Pathetic.
I've never known a group of gamers to twist a narrative so quickly on nearly every damn story they get wrong.
'Rise of the Tombraider is an XB1 exclusive'
'No it isn't, it's a timed exclusive.'
'Spencer has said it's an exclusive.'
'No he didn't. He swerved the question.'
'He said it was like the Dead Rising deal which proves it's an XB1 exclusive'
'It will be on the PS4 6 months after the XB1'
'LOL. It's NOT coming to the PS4. Give up and accept it.'
'Spencer said there was a time involved in the exclusivity.'
'Yes, for the PC port.'
'Why only a PC port?'
'Why are you so butt hurt? It's NOT coming to the PS4.'
'We'll see ... I'll say around 6 months.'
'I can't wait to see you eat crow.'
PS4 version announced
'I told you it was coming to the PS4'
'Yes but you said 6 months. I win.'
Your gloating has backfired. At least have the humility to accept it. What you need to ask yourself is how did we know and why were we so certain? Then read what Spencer has said without the filter.

So true. I can't believe people are coming here and saying "Ha! It's 1 year not 6 months, IN YOUR FACE!" well not those exact words, but that's the save they're trying to make after hoping and dreaming that it would be a premanent console exclusive. What's interesting in this is that we even had some people who are pretty neutral come down in favour of the most likely scenario being permanent console exclusive. People really were fooled by the spin. And it was spin, if there ever has been spin in this industry, this is definitely it. Or maybe people allowed themselves to be fooled by the spin because they so very much wanted the spin not to be spin and for it to be true.
I don't think I've ever witnessed people so determined that a game must be console exclusive based on information almost from the day it was announced as Xbox exclusive in 2015 that has clearly always strongly implied the exact opposite. Sure there are other examples of arguments about exclusivity, most notably MGS4, but the available information supported the conjecture that the game would probably always be exclusive, so at least when PS3 folks argued strongly that MGS4 would not come to 360, they had information that strongly supported their case. This situation never backed up the desire by some people that PS4 gamers should forever be denied Tomb Raider.
