You're not familiar with Nintendo's business model, I take it? Back in the days of the GCN, they made the most money out of the big three with the worst-selling system. We're talking about PROFITS here, not units moved.  All this talk of what Nintendo "needs" to do is nonsense. The only thing that they need to do is keep making quality software for an affordable system (the NX should not cost $300 almost three years in). The rest takes care of itself. 

Amiibos and we need to wait what is Nintendo's plan for 2016 Wii U and 3Ds game lineup is. so far we knew a bit of spring 2016 games but not the overall 2016 picture.

Probably mobile related stuff.

That, and amiibos are already selling like hotcakes.

I think it HAS to come out in 2016 (both for their projections to be accurate and for them to do well). People claiming it will come out 2017 or 2018 because Nintendo TYPICALLY releases a device every 4-5 years aren't paying attention to the fact that the Wii U is a FAILURE (don't get me wrong, I love it). They need to reinsert themselves into the market with a fresh device that will captivate people before the ps4/xbone get too much market share. And the 3ds would be SUPER old if they didn't release a handheld until 2017 or 2018 (all the more reason I suspect a fusion device).

Nintendo wants to make money and they certainly aren't going to make much, if any, off keeping the Wii U going for a couple more years (no matter HOW many games they put on it, it's dead).

Quality of life + mobile + consoloe software sales.

I seriously can't believe people hates Nintendo so much to expect their next console until 2017-2018. Wii U forecast for this FY is what? 3M? What are you expecting for 2016 and 2017? 1 Million? Do you think is healthy for the company to keep those low sales? And don't come here saying but mobile and amiibos! because that's not going to cover the profits of great hardware sales that generates great software sales.

Actually 3.4m for Wii U and 7.6 for 3DS, if they hit targets Wii U will be on same level like in 2014. but they expecting 1.1m less for 3DS.

2016. will be probably 2-3m for Wii U and around 5-6m for 3DS. So yes, they need new hardware in 2016/2017.

They will be fine next year, with or without NX.

The first thing they said after naming it was 2016.
