Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Trouble with Wii U Port of Mighty No. 9?

wait until the game is out before calling it a bad port

no disc version no buy for me on any system. hope they read my comment lol.

'Specs' maybe not the correct term the developer is saying. This is a 2D platformer that Wii U has a lot. Maybe they weren't that familiar with the Wii U architecture but who knows we are all just speculating.

It seems like devs are using the 'Wii U is underpowered' more frequently as an excuse for their lazy porting, even though it does not make any sense with games like Mighty No.9, which does not look impressive at all.

The default response for wii u fans sad about missing games. It would be one thing if a couple of devs made that claim, but the fact that all devs are saying that means something. And specs issues go beyond looks, the issue could be cpu related in generating many enemies at once, or working with different architecture compared to the competition

Well, nothing suggest this to you when it comes to any ports for the Wii U. So... Please, tell us how the Wii U architecture works, in intricate details please, compared to all the other current platforms. I think the thread will be better once we're all on the same page.

Well they even use the same engine so I don't see the problem.

Look at Rayman Legends, gorgeous looking 2D game that runs on 1080p 60fps on Wii U. I don't know if the PS4/XBONE versions look better, but the difference is very small at least.

Please tell us why this game would be hard to port to the Wii U. It can't be the following:

- Engine

- Graphics

- Level design

- Size

- the amount of stuff that appears on screen at once

Rayman Legends also runs at 1080p at a consistent 60fps on 360 and PS3 with identical graphics but no gamepad functionality of course.

Most multiformat games run worse on wii u compared to 360 and PS3 and the realistic explanation for that is the very low cpu performance of the wii u which is much worse than 360 and PS3 due to only have 3 1.25ghz powerpc cores. Some graphic effects can be cpu intensive, the wii u gpu has an enhanced feature set compared to ps3 and 360 but the graphics effects in this game may not actually benefit from that and actually need higher cpu resources.

Both ps3 and 360 had surprisingly high cpu performance for their time and the upgrade in cpu performance with regard xbone and ps4 is not that huge although they do benefit from having 64bit processors not the 32bit processors of 360, ps3 and wii u. The wii u is on a lower cpu performance level and is best programmed from the ground up to get best results. I.e. games with lower cpu requirements.

If a developer is struggling on wii u most of the time its going to be cpu performance if the same game is also available on 360 and ps3.

Looking at videos clearly the game isn't a simple 2D game and does have some good effects. It may not have the beautiful artistic style of some Nintendo games but still looks good.

What do people actually believe is in the wii u that can deliver superior performance to the 360 and PS3? It's on the same low cost fabrication process as 360 and PS3 and uses far less power, it has less memory bandwidth, low cpu resources and a gpu we still aren't sure about but that we know has to make space for the original wii gpu for compatibility. Where exactly is this mystical extra performance meant to be coming from?

Also some of these games are lower resolution on wii u like sonic transformed or have missing detail or more obvious poppin on wii u where graphic assets don't appear until slightly later or not at all for minor detail.

I stopped taking your post serious when you said this game looked good. If this was a Wii U exclusive a lot of people here would be mocking the game for its graphics.

Take a look at Yoshi's Woolly World and compare it to Mighty No. 9... They look generations apart.

Both look gorgeous to me, and both have a different approach on their art direction and color presentation.

So the CEO of Inti Creates, the developer of Mighty No. 9, recently sent out a tweet in which he showed a picture of Mighty No. 9 running on the Wii U GamePad. In this tweet he wrote:

"It’s good that all console versions of Mighty No. 9 are happening! The [making of] the Wii U version was harsh due to specs, but people who were responsible for porting really did their best, so it will be finished nicely!"

Ummm I don't know about you guys but this doesn't sound too promising with regards to how the game will run on Wii U when compared to the other versions of the game. I didn't think this would be much of an issue considering the type of game this is (2D side-scroller), and yet he's saying that they had trouble with the port. I was hoping this could be like a Rayman Legends type situation, ie: it looks a little better on PS4/X1, yet still runs and looks great on the Wii U. Based on what he's saying here, it doesn't sound too good. What do you guys think? Am I overreacting?

Yes, I think you are overreacting, they had problems with the specs (usually the problem is that the engines use the CPU more and the console is not very strong there but the GPU is, so they need to make adjustments for everything to run smoothly), not sure what is the tech goal on the game (1080p x 60 fps?), and it really does not matter much, I still enjoy the original megaman games.

The Wii U version hurt is because of the lack of special edition, but I think the game has a good chance in the console, specially because there is so little competence on the release date.

Super Mario Maker launches like 4 days earlier than Mighty.
