Forums - Gaming - By its 1 year anniversary, Destiny will have $80~$100 worth of DLC. Is this ok?

What is wrong with this? So PS4 has $6000 worth the games in 18 months, is that wrong? The Halo Franchise has $600 worth the games, is this a problem?

Destiny is not a single player champain akin to Uncharted or Halo, it is a living breathing universe. They are releasing new content over time, and it is a huge team of devs making this possible. Just like GT or Forza, in time more constent becomes available. They have to release the game at some point, and you get what they have completed so far. If you don't like the model, then either wait tell they announce they are stopping support for the game and buy it then, or just don't buy it.

I am not an advocate for Destiny. I played it the first month it was out, and I have not went back to it since. Once they have an actual story continuation I will be back, but I don't care about strike and MP DLC.

Gamers need to get with the times and understand this is not a bad thing. The fact that devs can continue to support a product long after its release is great for gaming. And no, the $60 you spent for the first 3 years of development does not give you any right to have the next three years of content given to you.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I see your point, but here is the problem.

1- They are pricing it WAY over what we are used from other publishers. No one is saying they should work for free, but is it ok to charge 3 times more? Why EA, Ubisoft, CD PROJEKT, Nintendo, SONY, MS and others manage to put out good content for a reasonable (or at least cheaper) price?
2- Even among big MMORPGs, which arguably add much more content in one expansion than Destiny has so far, only charge $60 per year. At best.

For some people it might be, but for me it is definitely not.
For that price it should have much more content, but sadly it doesn't.
This whole DLC stuff is going way too far and sadly some people support it anyway.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

The game was marketed as tripple AAA and still costs that much. If they want to do that then make the base game for free or give a free edition. They make their game oike MMO but demand AAA its rediclous. The game was also heavily downgraded

I could see the base game as PS+ and/or GWG game this holiday. If the subscribers like the game, they will probably buy some of the DLCs.

It's not OK. I bought DBZ: Xenoverse and the "season pass." So I bought the game and then payed an additional $25. This stuff was on disc behind a paywall too! That made me angry! I don't ever want to do that again. We must take a stand against this!

I think I will buy a PS2 and start buying cheap games with many hours of gameplay complete on disk.

Why do you think Activision acquired their talents? They learned well from Blizzard.

Destiny is an mmo. How much money do subscription based mmos cost in a year?

Also it's absolutely not ok to pay money. At all.

The first M in MMO stands for Massive.

And Destiny is very far removed from massive...the closest it gets is at the hub where you can dance in front of people.

I played for the first month or so, when the most people played, and at best there were 5 or 6 people in my world to partake on a daily mission (or to shoot at a cave). 5,6, or even 12 is not massive at all.

its a fantastic way to make people dislike the game. as someone who bought and played destiny from launch i can assure you i consider my self a fan of the game no more. dont get me wrong, the base game is good and fun, and i can see the new 60$ collectors edition with all the DLC to be very much worth it, but i bought the game at 60$, and i really dont want to spend another 80$~ or so just to get the "full experience". thanks but no thanks.

Next time i will wait a year or so for the same thing to happen, then by the game with all the DLC and shit, if i am still interested that is.

Buying Destiny a year later with all the DLC included to get the "full experience" is actually quite pointless. This is mainly because Destiny is a very loot driven game and once one expansion has been replaced by another, the old raids (Destiny's main attraction) become pretty much obsolete when it comes to getting the best loot as you can get the best loot from the latest events from the most recent expansion.

Destiny is akin to an MMO in the sense that it goes through various phases as the expansions drop and if you miss out of a particular phase, you really can't experience the same thing anymore. Doing the Crota's End hard raid now at level 34 and better guns/exotics isn't the same as doing it at level 32 when it first released. We needed 6 people before and even then struggled sometimes to finish the raid. Now two of us can just waltz in and make quick work of it in 15-20 minutes.

I 100% believe not.
