I'm talking about 2014 though, where Sony didn't have any PS4 R&D expenses, the PS3 is deffinitely not sold at a loss since they went past the breakeven point on PS3 hardware back in 2010, and the losses for Vita occured in 2012 and in 2013.
And that's 50 BILLION Yen in 2013, which equals roughly 400 million USD, while in 2014 they made 59 BILLION Yen , or 475 Million USD (both of these from Music). In 2014 they made almost 50 billion yen from gaming, or almost 400 million USD.
Now obviously 475 million dollars is more than 400 million dollars, thus Sony makes more from Music than from Gaming. So if they make shit from Music that would mean they make shit from Gaming too.

The fact that they are weak as a company both financially and brand wise. Also that they should try finish the game and not give Microsoft any chance. MS is showing no signs but the gap isn't growing at the same pace as before. With Microsoft's history and profits, they can easily come back I don't think that they will or Nintendo will but Sony should try to have a almost crushing lead to seal the gaming gen win. |
Hmm. I would say that playstation is the top brand in gaming but not in the other markets it's involved in. It's starting to recover financially though. We'll have to see how this gen plays out though because there's a lot of things happening that aren't predictable.
Microsoft has no history in gaming to suggest that it can easily come back. Also, the gaming part of the Microsoft does not have access to all of the company's resources. It's on a limited budget or it has a limited allowance.

Great thread OP. I totally agree with Sony having to make the PS brand competetive across all forums of computing. This is why PlayStation Vue and Project Morpheus are major.
Vue is going to bring in a huge wave of casuals who are comfortable with TV as it is, but want more convenince, lower prices, and more options. To all the people saying PS4 won't sell 140M, again, there are over 200M cable boxes in the US, and over 400M world wide. Once Vue is available across the US, and Sony allows us to stream to 3 of them at a time, PS4 sales are going to make every console before it look like a niche product.
Project Morpheus is going to be a major expansion product for the PS brand. Morpheus is being sold to gamers as a games first device, but in business, morpheus is the new frontier of how we interact and view things in the digital world. Movie studios, the music industry, Nasa, Museums, productivity software developers, art institutes, sports, TV, and so many more industries are being worked with to bring the next generation of computing to VR. This is the first revolution in gaming and entertainment in decades. Wii showed what can happen with a mere gimik in gesture based controls, Morpheus and other VR along with real motion controls are going to make Wii look like a blip in the radar, and it is not going to die off. Morpheus will sell like crazy this gen, but next gen will be the PS2 like performance where everything is put together in a package that can stand the test of time.
I think the one last thing Sony has to do, that was not mentioned in the OP, is revamp the PlayStation Mobile side of the PS brand. Once PlayStation Network is ironed out, PS Vue is nation wide, PS Now has PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS Vita titles available, then it is time for the 3rd gen PS Mobile. If they have things working flawless, then every one of the 100M++ PS4 users should have no problem jumping over to PS Mobile devices. This will give them a solid footing in home and mobile, and help them continue to grow into the 2020s.

GRAN TURISMO 8 will release in 2019,I have corrected it
UNCHARTED 4 in noway will be the last one,UNCHARTED is SONY's 2nd biggest franchise and a cash cow and soon to be even bigger than GRAN TURIMSO,no way in hell they are gonna end it devs say its last game all the time and its also a hypying and marketing ploy ROCKSTAR will easily do TIMED exclusivity as they have 3 game old exclusivity deal with SONY and SONY let-go of GTA4 exclusivity deal and have great relationship with SONY and also PS4 lead and bigger lead by 2017 GTA6 release and SONY would even pay more lead will easily land PS4 GTA6 timed exclusivity SONY can easily pay $100m,they wud pay that for GTA DLC exclusivity itself.SONY will pay as much as $500m for GTA6 exclusivity easily
|
Sony don't tell Naughty Dog what they can and can't do, that's well documented. They have a new IP in very early stages as of 2014. And I can see another game set in The Last Of Us' universe, but I say: no Uncharted 5. Maybe a spin off in 5 years time, or earlier if done by another dev, but not another mainline Uncharted game.
And Sony isn't going to blow half a billion dollars on timed exclusivity, that's crazy. They would be lucky to see even half of that in returns over the life of the console.

PLAYSTATION only went under in NA with PS3,even there if it had lower price,no delay and manufacturing problem,it wud still beat X360 and Wii completely
MICROSOFT has 15 years of gamin years so its pretty significant but yes XBOX is a small brand compared to PLAYSTATION and NINTENDO but MICROSOFT is easily the biggest company and most profitable of them all and can easily come back because of that.
GAMING part of MICROSOFT will have as much resources as the company wants to invest in that direction, its not their main product so it doesn't get main contribution but what can you ask after MICROSOFT has pumped $15billion in the XBOX brand.it is on pretty much unlimited nudget but they don't invest much as its not really brought alot of returns

Go to page 3, there you'll see a breakdown by segment, Where you'll see it says 59.0 for Music and there's a notice that says all figures are in billion yen unless otherwise noted. Then if you transfer 59 billion yen to usd you get approx 475 million.
