Yeah Zelda is just way more consistent. It even has better spin offs.

At one point in time I think you could have made arguments either way although I still think Zelda wins. But after Final Fantasy released 3 consequtive non-stellar games the shine has come off the franchise.

Really?  Pay attention to the whole OT, it's not long.

But Zelda because of Zelda.  Prestige goes to Zelda because it has more prestige.  Forget about consistency, forget about gameplay, forget about which sucked and didn't sucked.  Zelda is Nintendo's second or third most prestiges IP, depending on pokemon's place on the list, but Zelda has Nintendo's backing and has meant more to the gaming world than FF.

FF is also well renouned, but Zelda is the franchise that changed modern gaming more historically than FF.

No, not based on one memorable song - based on nostalgia.

I think Zelda used to have "legendary" status but that was mainly because it came out at a time where competition wasn't fierce. I can't say I remember any Zelda tune or felt the need to youtube any of them after having played OoT. But opinions, right? But then again I remember the music from very few video games:

FF, of course.

God of War

Dragon Quest

Yeah, opinions, but then there's like logical opinions and there are balls off the walls opinions.  Just because your memory of Zelda tunes are a little foggy, you can't deny the droves of people here on this site and any other site that as a rounded consensus that Zelda soundtrack has been stellar.  Nothing against FF either, FF has a wonderful track record of great soundtracks.  I can only remember a few hand pick songs in FF, but I can't discredit them for anything either.  Both franchise have stellar sound tracks, so I just don't understand why there would be any discredit to either franchise by genre of soundtrack.

Well, they're very different series so it's difficult to compare them but in a very personal way I'll say I prefer Zelda

Never play FF series so my answer is Zelda obviously.

All right, this is just flat out bs.  The two best zelda spin off games I can even think of are link's cross bow training which is shovelware and hyrule warriors which is generic musou garbage, and then there's the tingle games. . .  Meanwhile ff has games like tactics, one of the best tactical rpgs ever made, and the ridiculous yet wonderful kingdom hearts.

I would consider that ridiculous.  Maybe the co-op oriented games like the four swords and the up-coming triforce heroes, but even they follow the formula very closely.
