...It's called a spin off.

I think most of us were wanting/expecting to get an actual Metroid game before getting a spin off-  now we are getting a spin off but no Metroid game for the Wii u at all

Metroid is my favorite gaming franchise. Super Metroid is the only video game I would give a 10/10. I knew after Other M's backlash that Nintendo would put the series on the backburner while they brainstorm about how they can refresh it. In my opinion that is alright. Having a spinoff doesn't change anything. Whether or not the spinoff exists a mainline Metroid or Prime series Metroid would likely not. I'm glad though that they are considering to revisit the franchise on the NX, and just like they revolutionized Metroid with the Prime game after having a hiatus during the N64, I have high hopes that they will revolutionize it again when the NX comes out. Who knows, maybe Nintendo will release  Metroid Prime HD before Wii U is done for, and that would suit the Metroid need until the new game releases. If they correlated scans to the gamepad, upgraded the graphics, and allowed for Wiimote controls, I'd buy these games for the third time.

The Metroid Prime games aren't spin-offs. Just the salty words from Sakamoto who can't stand that the Prime games are more popular and better than his own games.

Hate to break it to you but Metroid is inspired by generic sci-fi movies like Alien/Aliens. Both the 2D and 3D games.

And the plot of the evil government plotting against the hero/heroine isn't generic sci-fi stuff? You know, like Metroid: Fusion and Other M.

Platforming is not what made Metroid Metroid. There's no hard platforming in any of the 2D Metroid games (unless you want to sequence break).

Next you'll tell me that Other M incapsulates what it's like to be Metroid better than the Prime games lol. You don't sound like a Metroid fan to me. Ask any Metroid fan what the core concept of the franchise is, they'll all answer exploration. Not platforming.

They are spin offs by definition. Different gameplay and plot that is to the side of the mainline Metroid plot. They are spin offs. Alien isn't a generic sci-fi movie. It's retro space horror. That's a very specific brand of sci-fi. The Prime games don't even remotely resemble the Alien movies.

Fusion and Other M are poor Metroid games because they do shit like that.

Platforming is the reason Metroid was fucking created, dude. What are you even talking about? Do you know anything at all about the history of this franchise? It was made to combine the linearity and platforming of Mario with the exploration and action of Zelda. That. Is. Why. It. Exists. Of course platforming is a major part of what makes Metroid Metroid. 90% of the power ups in Metroid games are platforming powerups.

The space jump. Gravity Suit. Shine Spark. Screw Attack. Wall jump. Bomb jump. Hi-jump boots. Speed Booster. Grappling Beam. Spring Ball. All used for platforming that is integral to beating the games. All integral to what makes Metroid Metroid. And let's not act like there's no difficult platforming in Metroid. Just because falling doesn't result in a one fall deaths like in mascot/objective-based platformers doesn't mean the platforming is less difficult. It means the platforming is more forgiving.

No person who thinks that platforming isn't core to Metroid is a real Metroid fan. Other M was an abomination because it tries to be a core Metroid game. Fusion is poor for many of the same reasons.

I understand our dissapointment. What I don't understand is why so many people are mad at this game. I could have been neither a spin off nor a mainline game. People act like cancelling a spinoff would suddenly give them a mainline game. I just feel that emotions are getting in the way of rational.

Looks worlds better if you ask me. Alien worlds.

Geometry is still blocky as hell, textures are shite. This is the same system that can produce this:

Federation Force looks a lot closer to Prime Hunters than to RE Revelations

I'm not saying that FF looks better than DS game, I'm saying it looks worse. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I was saying Hunters looks better than FF.

Not really. But dual analogue controls are clunky compromises: technology has given us better ways to control games, and I look forward to the inevitable day when everyone starts to move on past them.

Like what? I mean, aside from the steam controller, what is out there that is universal, urganomic, and better for controlling shooters? I don't see that day happening.

I get that. That doesn't make this game bad. That make this game not what people wanted. The game is fine. The timing is bad. The artstyle is worse. The platform is worse still.

Ah, I completely misunderstood then. I'm glad we're in agreement that FF looks like boiled feces.

Metroid: Fusion is the best 2D Metroid game. Yes, there's less exploration, but it's still very much there. Has a great story, atmosphere and main enemy. Plus the best controls (alongside Zero Mission).

And no, there's no difficult platforming in the 2D Metroid games. I found the platforming in the first Prime game much more annoying (thankfully they got mostly rid of it in Prime 2 and 3).

And all those powerups you mentioned are in the Prime games with the exception of speed booster (the shinespark is merely an extention of that ability). You can't claim these powerups are there for platforming if you also claim the Prime games have no platforming.

There's more difference between Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 than between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. Yet no one calls the 2D and 3D Mario games spin-offs. They're all part of the Super Mario Bros. series.

So what if it has a different plot? That doesn't make it a spin-off. MM has a different plot than OoT, is that a spin-off as well now?

nice co-op game to be honest. so the hate is just knee-jerk reactions to begin with.

I take it then that you haven't played a shooter with the Wiimote yet, or even Splatoon. Both are far superior to dual analogue, even if the keyboard and mouse remains supreme. Dual analogues were created as an unhappy medium, and I'm pleased to say we no longer need them. Now I just wait for The Industry to realize that.
