The Metroid Prime games aren't spin-offs. Just the salty words from Sakamoto who can't stand that the Prime games are more popular and better than his own games.

Hate to break it to you but Metroid is inspired by generic sci-fi movies like Alien/Aliens. Both the 2D and 3D games.

And the plot of the evil government plotting against the hero/heroine isn't generic sci-fi stuff? You know, like Metroid: Fusion and Other M.

Platforming is not what made Metroid Metroid. There's no hard platforming in any of the 2D Metroid games (unless you want to sequence break).

Next you'll tell me that Other M incapsulates what it's like to be Metroid better than the Prime games lol. You don't sound like a Metroid fan to me. Ask any Metroid fan what the core concept of the franchise is, they'll all answer exploration. Not platforming.

They are spin offs by definition. Different gameplay and plot that is to the side of the mainline Metroid plot. They are spin offs. Alien isn't a generic sci-fi movie. It's retro space horror. That's a very specific brand of sci-fi. The Prime games don't even remotely resemble the Alien movies.

Fusion and Other M are poor Metroid games because they do shit like that.

Platforming is the reason Metroid was fucking created, dude. What are you even talking about? Do you know anything at all about the history of this franchise? It was made to combine the linearity and platforming of Mario with the exploration and action of Zelda. That. Is. Why. It. Exists. Of course platforming is a major part of what makes Metroid Metroid. 90% of the power ups in Metroid games are platforming powerups.

The space jump. Gravity Suit. Shine Spark. Screw Attack. Wall jump. Bomb jump. Hi-jump boots. Speed Booster. Grappling Beam. Spring Ball. All used for platforming that is integral to beating the games. All integral to what makes Metroid Metroid. And let's not act like there's no difficult platforming in Metroid. Just because falling doesn't result in a one fall deaths like in mascot/objective-based platformers doesn't mean the platforming is less difficult. It means the platforming is more forgiving.

No person who thinks that platforming isn't core to Metroid is a real Metroid fan. Other M was an abomination because it tries to be a core Metroid game. Fusion is poor for many of the same reasons.
