Very high hardware numbers for almost all consoles. DS is incredible, Wii is back at its usual 2007 level, PS2 is up to 350k out of nowhere and PS3 manages to hold its January level of sales, which is a good sign for it. 360 is not that far behind, so for the next few months it will be interesting to see if 360 can regain the lead and if so with what margin.
Software seems good for 360, although only top 10 doesn't say it all. According to Microsoft they had 184M revenue in software sales, compared to 130M for Wii and 97M for PS3. (Source: http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/15958/February-2008-NPD-Microsofts-Response/ ) Nintendo provided total unit numbers for its 2 platforms, DS sold 3.6M units of software and Wii sold 2.9M units. (Source: http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=14794 ) Overall it seems almost all platforms had good to great software sales. In units I don't think the difference it totals for Wii and 360 will be that big, and PS3 selling over 50% in revenue compared to 360 seems pretty good as well considering the difference in userbase.
Some remarks about individual titles:
- Devil May Cry didn't do too well, especially compared to what we have seen in the weekly American sales and the shipment number released by Capcom.
- CoD4 for 360 is a real monster, 4 months in a row at the top of the rankings is very impressive, as is selling almost 300k units in its 4th month.
- Guitar Hero III on Wii has been the best selling platform for the title for 2 months in a row now. If this continues into the future it could become the best selling platform among the current generation consoles. It won't get near PS2 though.
