DMeisterJ - it comes down to where ioi gets his info @ the retailers for.

The issue with tracking software is it totally varies by store, by genre, and by area....Which is a problem. On many games, wherever ioi gets his data from can be "typical" at times, such as the PS3 version of DMC, and inflated for the X360 version. It can also be the exact opposite - as shown with COD4 on the X360 last year - the X360 version was leaps and bounds ahead via NPD vs. VGC, ultimately due to where the copies were bought.

leo-J:

If anything, that proves that the PS3 userbase consists of hardcore users that bought PS2s, and loved the DMC series, and other PS2 offerings, whereas the X360 userbase isn't consisting of PS2 fanboys.

Still, the fact is, the X360 version sold better, despite no brand regognition of the product whatsoever. What if FF13 sold better on the X360 in the same manner? What would that prove to you?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Superchunk I think he fails to realize that comparing Ps2 vs the Ps3 is a bullshit comparison. He sounds like GGE to me "playstation is the only one loosing this gen because of the successes of the previous consoles"

That's like comparing Love Me Do by the Beetles to Imagine by John Lennon

MikeB - no they don't. DMC was a game that was 100% on the PS2 last gen, and the Xbox never recieved a DMC game, or anything close to it.

Yet the 360 version outsold it - despite selling oh-so much more software. Isn't it wierd that the PS3 failed to have any other game in the top-10, and the X360 had 5 games?

And I say this in respect to the fact that GTA was actually on the Xbox, despite being ported late, and still sold OK.

I think it does, the 360 still has about 2.5 times the install base in North America yet it outsold the PS3 version by only a factor 1.26 ! Many will buy a PS3 to play GTA IV anticipating sequels to other popular PS2 games on the PS3 like for instance the exclusive MGS4 in June. IMO this all bodes well for the PS3.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Yeah, I know, but it's crazy.

If NPD is right, the the PS3 version is actually tracking above the XBOX 360 version, which would be really crazy.  If the PS3 version is indeed ahead of the 360 version, that would be "crazzy".

The percentages are just there for faster visualisation of the differences. They are meaningless without Canadian's data and on low numbers.

But again, we go into the fact that the X360 userbase bought a huge bit more than the PS3 did in the games department: despite the fact the PS3 has a ratio of 2.5:1 for console install base in the US, the top-10 is littered with X360 games and not with PS3 games.

The X360 had new IPs never on it's console before (such as Rock Band, Lost Odyssey), and the PS3 only charted with one game that it's always been known as a PS3 exclusive.

And for those saying that this proves that GTAIV is going to sell oh-so well on the PS3 version the X360, lets do this......

I am officially calling out every PS3 fanboy that's willing to do a GTAIV PS3/X360 bet.

I'll bet a week's ban, and a month's signature that GTAIV on X360 will outsell the PS3 version, in it's first full month on the NPD charts, by atleast 1.6:1 or more. Willing to take that better? After all, DMC was 1.26 to 1...So it'll be good odds for you :)
