I just hope Nintendo does some serious reflecting when they look at these sales numbers.

I don't think so. Nintendo doesn't care if Wii U sell only 12 - 15 Million LT. They only care about minimalize their loss with the Wii U and making profit with SW sales, Amiibo, 3ds, etc.

Where the hell are those numbers coming from?

First of all the Wii U is NOT up YoY (yet) according to both Media Create and Famitsu.

Media Create: 253,202 (2014) vs. 233,179 (2015)
Famitsu: 263,856 (2014) vs. 227,443 (2015)

Secondly Gamecube outsold the Wii U 2004 vs. 2014 (726,640 vs. 618,150 respectively) according to Media Create.

Besides, the Gamecube was DEAD in Japan by 2005 so outselling it isn't much of an accomplishment.

I think Nintendo was a little naive to expect the Wii U to be successful. The Wii was very successful because they targeted casual fans, and the casual fans probably didn't care about getting a new console.

I know quite a few "casuals" who were interested in the Wii U at launch. Then they saw the price of it. Now they've forgotten about it and lost interest.

Mis judgement on Nintendo's part. They didn't have the hardware to fully target the core market. And priced themselves out of the people who would have just been happy with an upgrade to their Wii.
