I don't think so. Nintendo doesn't care if Wii U sell only 12 - 15 Million LT. They only care about minimalize their loss with the Wii U and making profit with SW sales, Amiibo, 3ds, etc.

I think Nintendo was a little naive to expect the Wii U to be successful. The Wii was very successful because they targeted casual fans, and the casual fans probably didn't care about getting a new console.
