of course there's a good reason not to. it's much more immersive when your hand movement translates to the character's screen movement. we're talking about 1st person vr experience of course. for example if you're swinging a sword in front of your face, you'll want the object to react to your real movement.
the disconnect comes from people assuming VR will be the same experience we already have, just with a screen strapped to the face. of course if i'm playing a character on the screen the standard controller would be the best way to connect to that experience. but if your brain is tricked into thinking that's not a character, but actually it's really you inside that game there's a complete change in how you perceive the same experience.
I'm glad sony are aware of this and looking into ways of improving our input methods. oculus did the same with oculus touch at the end of their presentation
