Mario Kart is the biggest system seller Wii U has ever had and ever will have.

Splatoon can't compete with that. Oh it will boost hardware alright, but not to anywhere near the same degree.

Don't get me wrong, I am super happy that Splatoon is doing well.  It's an amazing game and I will be absolutely thrilled if it passes 2 million lifetime sales.  That said, I just don't think it's fair or realistic to compare it to a monster like Mario Kart 8.

 We are already hearing that Splatoon is selling about half as well as MK8 here in North America and I think that is amazing news.... Definitely something for Nintendo to celebrate.  But that same news also points to hardware sales for the Wii U in the month of June being down YoY.  But there's nothing wrong with that, because Wii U will have Xenoblade X, Yoshi, Mario Maker coming to bolster sales in the second half where the Wii U's lineup last year was pretty thin.

Nope. Mario Kart is the biggest system seller the Wii U can have. No other game can sell as many systems as that game.

I'd like that to happen, but I don't think it will. Especially if my fears of a cross-gen release for Zelda with NX are true.

1) NX will not be discussed till 2016, and even then, it is not a replacement for the 3DS, let alone the Wii U (if anything, the NX would be a 3DS successor as the Wii U still has till 2017 to complete the 5 year minnimum life cycle)

2) They would not do that to the Wii U. They know it needs it.

Seriously. It's not going to do that. 

Twilight Princess does set a precedent, but I won't derail the thread further.

Even if it is exclusive though, I don't believe even Zelda could move as many Wii Us as Mario Kart 8 did. By the end of Wii U's lifespan I expect MK8 will still be the highest selling game and strongest system seller for the console.
